Hollywood legend Sylvester “Sly” Stallone recently found himself trending — not because he passed away, but because social media users were convinced he did.

The confusion began after musician Sly Stone, of Sly and the Family Stone fame, died on Monday at the age of 82.

Following the news of Stone’s death, social media users appeared to confuse Stone (whose real name is Sylvester Stewart) with Stallone, who has also used the nickname “Sly” in the past.

“I thought Sylvester Stallone had died for a minute, not Sly Stone,” one user wrote on X.

“I read this quickly and thought it said Sylvester Stallone at first…,” another wrote alongside a tweet about Stone’s death.

Others jumped in with equally cheeky humor. “Asked my waiter if he heard the news about Sylvester Stallone. He wept,” one Stallone fan wrote.

This isn’t the first time fans thought the Rocky star kicked the bucket. In July 2024, a Facebook account posted an update claiming that Stallone had died.

“The supremely talented actor, the man who acted at his best in many films, has gone,” the post read. “Sylvester Stallone, known as John Rambo (1946-2024) R.I.P. Legend. Your martial arts legacy remains in the film industry. May your great soul be remembered for eternity.”

The post garnered thousands of shares — though it was reportedly flagged as “false information” by Meta, the owner of Facebook.

A similar hoax happened in 2018, when rumors about his death surfaced overnight in the U.K., before making their way to the U.S.

Stallone took to Instagram to address those rumors, writing: “Please ignore this stupidity. Alive and well and happy and healthy,” adding, “Still punching!”
