“The way we get dressed every morning is as personal as it gets. There are outfit repeaters, vintage treasure hunters, and even emotional dressers. But while everyone loves a good fashion trend, here at InStyle, we’re interested in the deeper stuff, too: the way jewelry makes us feel, the way a beloved coat can spark joy on a cold day, the way a pair of shoes can pull a whole look together. How I Get Dressed unpacks fashion routines, rituals, and go-tos—straight from the fashion tastemakers we love.“

Sydney Sweeney had the sort of high-low personal style fashion editors love. She swears by American Eagle for the most comfortable jeans (they cost only $60), but she’s also on the guest list at the hottest Miu Miu shows and a regular at the Venice Film Festival.

Just last week, she walked the Met Gala steps in a shimmering beaded gown inspired by Kim Novak, only to end the night walking her German Shepherd puppy outside the Carlyle Hotel in a comfy suit, rather than hitting one of the event’s countless after parties. Her IMDb page is similarly broad in scope, varying from prestige TV (Euphoria and The White Lotus) to the delightfully campy Glen Powell–directed rom-com Anyone But You. She’s got range, so to speak, in fashion and in life.

True to form, her most recent venture combines it all. Sweeney’s new campaign for Samsung, which dropped May 13, finds the actress in a vibey series of vignettes, playing a cast of characters that range from Old Hollywood starlet to modern cool girl—some of which are photographed on the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.

To celebrate the new launch, Sweeney chatted with InStyle about personal style, outfit formulas, and her newfound comfort in “just being unapologetically myself” with her fashion. Read on for How I Get Dressed, Sydney Sweeney Edition.

Why She Loves a Flip Phone

I’ve been working with Samsung now for the last two years, and I’ve been really, actually loving my flip phone. Whenever I pull it out, all my friends and my family get excited. I converted my two aunts and my grandpa to the flip phone because they were obsessed with it, and my friends constantly play with it. It’s such a fun accessory. I’m loving the camera; it’s really upped my photography game. And, you can customize so much—I have my phone set up where it looks like a video game, an old vintage Mario Kart game. It just fits my personality.

How She Plans Her Outfits

It depends on how I feel and where I am in the world. I am definitely more of a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl, and that’s my go-to. What I’m doing for the day or where I’m at—that dictates my style choices. My different closets in different places really fit the vibe of where I am in the world.

The Item She Wears on Repeat

I am obsessed with American Eagle jeans right now. I have never worn something more comfortable. My mom was wearing some [AE Jeans], and I was like, ‘What are those? Those look so good.’ American Eagle? Like, no way. So I went and got some American Eagle jeans. I have completely converted to American Eagle. I highly, highly recommend. I fear I’m not ever going to go back.

Her Favorite Cut of Jeans

I definitely like jeans a little looser. It depends on the top, but either low rise or mid-waist. But I don’t like anything tight.

Her Beauty Philosophy

In my day-to-day life, I’m pretty simple. I let my hair be natural and down, and then maybe a little mascara and some concealer when I break out. And I love blush. But other than that, I don’t really do a lot.

How She Works With Her Red Carpet Team

I have an amazing glam team [Melissa Hernandez and Glen Coco], who I have relied on heavily. I don’t know how to do half the stuff they do. They’re both incredible artists. We definitely work as a unit, including Molly Dickson, my stylist. We all communicate and collaborate. We’re like, ‘Okay, is this gonna be a hair moment? Is this gonna be a wardrobe moment? Maybe it’s a makeup moment.’

We all create mood boards, and we pass them around for every event. We’re all very hands on.

The Fashion Trend She’s Not Trying Anytime Soon

I hate super, super flat shoes. I like when my sneakers have got a little bit of platform on them. I’ve seen a lot of really flat shoes lately, and I haven’t liked that.

Why She Loves Being a Miu Miu Girl

It’s been four or five years now that I’ve been working with them; they were my first fashion show I ever went to. They’re like my family. The whole team over there are like my sisters, and I’ve grown up in the fashion world with them. They’ve embraced who I am and what I want to try and explore and become. They’ve been so collaborative with me… I’ll put together mood boards, and they will send me 20 pages of sketches, and we’ll give notes back and forth. Every look has been the brainchild of Miu Miu and me, and I’ve always been so appreciative of the collaboration, because not every designer is like that.

Her Personal Style in Three Words

Casual, comfortable, and cute.

On Euphoria season two, I took a lot of Cassie’s jeans because they were perfectly tailored to me. But I don’t really keep much fashion-wise from my characters, because I don’t like to bring my characters into my personal life. And so I’ve never really thought about taking a lot of clothes from them. Maybe I should.

How Her Style Has Evolved

It has evolved into me being more comfortable with being myself. Being comfortable showing up in a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, and not caring what other people think; just being unapologetically myself.

The Inspiration Behind Her Latest Campaign

Something that’s so fun with this new phone is that it’s super sleek, and it’s super slim. We played around with the idea of Where’s Waldo? but where’s the phone? We turned it into a really fun fashion shoot, because the phone is such a cool fashion accessory. You can slip it into your pocket and barely even tell it’s there. No one hates anything more than a really big, bulky phone in the back of your jeans.

We have the Old Hollywood vanity mirror moment, and reading scripts lying in a bed. We have “Cool Girl.” We have a “Classy Girl.” It’s a lot of fun setups that we got to play with. And Dennis Leupold, the photographer, who I love, I have a great relationship with him. We’ve been shooting together for a few years now. We brought him onto [the project], and he got to play around with the phone and shoot with the phone. And what’s amazing is that you can’t tell if [the campaign] was shot by a Samsung or a professional camera.
