Switchbot HomeKit Matter Hub

SwitchBot has quietly built a solid lineup of smart home products, including curtain motors, door locks, and robot vacuums. Last week, the company announced plans to expand support for Home Assistant, with more than 45 devices gaining support in the first half of 2025. For Home Assistant users, that’s big news. But for HomeKit fans, the real benefit continues to be Matter support, which helps bring SwitchBot gear into HomeKit in a reliable and easy-to-manage way.

Many of SwitchBot’s newer devices already work with Matter through the SwitchBot Hub 2, which connects Bluetooth products to Wi-Fi and allows them to appear in the Home app. This unlocks the ability to control many of SwitchBot’s products within HomeKit, add them to scenes, and include them in automation.

What is Home Assistant?

Home Assistant is a local smart home platform that gives you full control over your devices without relying on the cloud. It’s open-source and runs on hardware like a Raspberry Pi, an always on Mac, etc which lets you create custom automations and dashboards tailored to your setup. For Apple users, it can work alongside HomeKit using Matter or integrations like Homebridge, adding flexibility for devices that might not be natively supported. It’s ideal for anyone who wants more control and privacy in their smart home.

SwitchBot, Matter, and you

The expanded Home Assistant support doesn’t change how Matter works in HomeKit, but it shows that SwitchBot is investing in platform flexibility. If you use both Home Assistant and HomeKit in the same home, this update makes mixing and matching devices easier while still managing everything from a single interface.

In my experience, SwitchBot’s Matter-compatible devices fit HomeKit well. They’ve been super reliable for me. The Curtain 3 and Blind Tilt are simple ways to add automation to window coverings without swapping out hardware. The SwitchBot Lock can easily retrofit an existing deadbolt and work in the Home app just like any native HomeKit lock.

Wrap up

With the growing support for Matter and now Home Assistant, it’s clear that SwitchBot wants to be known as a smart home brand that works well with other platforms. That’s good news for HomeKit users who want flexibility without overhauling their entire setup. I am particularly a fan of the Smart Switch Button Pusher, which is the type of product that makes SwitchBot a unique product lineup.
