‘SVU’ Fans Speechless As Former Star Teases Grand Return: ‘The Gang’s Back Together’ originally appeared on Parade.
Bensler fans, assemble! Christopher Meloni just dropped the news we’ve all been waiting for: he’s (seemingly) on the call sheet for Season 27 of Law & Order: SVU.
The actor teased his presumed grand return (TVLine reports that NBC declined to comment on Meloni’s Season 27 status) on Instagram on Saturday, Aug. 2, sharing a sweet side-by-side photo with his on-screen, should-be love interest, Mariska Hargitay, that looks to have been taken on set.
Also featured in the post was Dann Florek, who plays Captain Donald Cragen—a character that hasn’t been seen for several seasons, which many fans were quick to point out.
“Hangin with friends on a Friday nite,” Meloni quipped nonchalantly in the caption, driving fans crazy with the possibilities of what’s to come.

The slow-burn non-relationship between Meloni’s Elliot Stabler and Hargitay’s Olivia Benson leaves fans on the edge of their seats every time the actor returns to the show. With the pair yet to take the big leap, fans have been “pray[ing] for times like this” where “one of [their] favorite pairings EVER!!!” would reunite.
“that’s great GO KISS HER,” one exclaimed, getting straight to the points, while others more subtly requested, “ok guys you already know what do you have to do so please for the love of god DO IT!!!”
“I KNEW YOU’D COME THE THROUGH, THE ONE MAN WE CAN COUNT ON!! 😍,” someone else celebrated.

“I am SOBBING!!!!” another admitted, going on to rejoice over the fact that “The gangs back together.”
“This new screenwriter knows how to get us watching ! YES YES YES ❤️,” they added.
SVU premieres on Thursday, Sept. 25.
