New Survivor couple alert!
Survivor 45 alum Katurah Topps and Sabiyah Broderick have announced that they’re dating by hard-launching their relationship on Instagram. Topps posted a shared gallery of photos with Broderick on Sunday along with a statement revealing that they’ve been dating for six months, making them the show’s first-ever Black queer female couple.
“On Survivor, we both struggled with fire,” the statement reads. “I couldn’t make it and she went a week without it. But what we’ve built together? That’s a fire that finally lit itself! From Players to Partners, from Castmates to Co-dreamers… Meet Survivor’s FIRST Black Queer Woman Couple.”
Topps and Broderick never actually interacted on season 45 of the long-running competition reality series, since they began on different tribes and Broderick was the third person voted out. Topps ironically was swapped to Broderick’s tribe, but it was the morning after Broderick was sent home. Ultimately, Topps survived the merge and was the last person to make the jury when she lost against Jake O’Kane in the final four fire-making challenge.
Topps told Out that their first official meeting was after they finished filming the season when the cast took a trip to Cape Cod.
“We’d talked on the phone for a bit [prior to the trip], but this was the first time we saw each other in person and the true beginning of our friendship,” Topps said. “We realized that our friendship — being ‘besties’ who talked every single day — was turning into something more last fall, around August 2024, and we decided to explore it casually. But, by January of this year, we knew we needed to make it official.”
According to Topps, Broderick asked her to be her girlfriend on January 20, a.k.a. the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration: “A day when we definitely needed more joy in the world.”

As for why they’ve gone public with their relationship now, Topps explained that it felt like the right time.
“We just celebrated our six-month anniversary on June 20. Plus, it’s Pride Month,” Topps said. “After making sure our foundation was solid, we’re finally ready to share this love with the world.”
