Although I’ve been choosing to live in denial, the truth is that summer is quickly slipping away. So long, studded swimsuits and gauzy beach wraps—we’ll meet again soon. Somewhere, someplace, a leaf has already begun its slow descent to the ground, which can only mean one thing: fall is coming. Or, more importantly, fall fashion.

But before you pack up your summer staples, there’s one item that deserves a second act—your shorts. And no one is making a stronger case for their seasonal crossover than Suki Waterhouse.

Photographed on a stroll through Notting Hill (orchid in hand, naturally), Waterhouse offered a masterclass in transitional dressing. Her look was a patchwork of contrasts that featured slinky satin track gym shorts in a deep burgundy, with a belt detail, which she layered over transparent black tights. It was quite the Carrie Bradshaw-esque pairing.

Waterhouse kept cozy with a vintage Levi’s denim bomber jacket tossed over a graphic tee that looked like it had survived more than a few concerts.

The singer’s shoes tied together the off-duty magic. She wore a pair of red ECCO’s BIOM® Lite sneakers—a low-slung, glove-like silhouette crafted in collaboration with designer Natacha Ramsay-Levi. With the sleekness of a ballet flat and the structure of a minimalist runner, the shoe nods to the season’s continued interest in sneakers that aren’t just sneakers.

Waterhouse finished off her cool-girl outfit with a hot-pink Matelasse Miu Miu bag, which retails for $2,950.
