When Halle Berry declared “I’m in menopause!” on Capitol Hill surrounded by senators, she wasn’t just making a statement – she was revolutionizing how we talk about women’s health. The Academy Award winner has transformed a deeply personal medical struggle into a powerful mission that’s changing lives and challenging stigmas.

The 58-year-old actress’s journey began with a shocking misdiagnosis that highlights everything wrong with women’s healthcare. When Berry experienced perimenopause symptoms, doctors incorrectly diagnosed her with herpes, leaving her frustrated and searching for answers,” she told Forbes. This medical oversight sparked her determination to ensure other women wouldn’t face the same confusion and dismissal.

Berry recognized that both doctors and patients desperately needed more awareness about this crucial life stage that affects every woman who lives long enough. Her response was to launch Respin, originally a wellness website that has now evolved into a comprehensive menopause-focused healthcare company.

What makes Berry’s advocacy so powerful is her willingness to challenge the narrative around aging and sexuality. “For so long people have put me in this sex symbol box,” Berry explains in Forbes. “For someone like me to speak about going through menopause, which has been so stigmatized, if I can say, ‘Hey, it’s sexy to arrive at this time of our life, it’s actually a privilege to age.'”

Through Respin, Berry is creating a one-stop destination for menopause support, offering everything from telehealth consultations with specialized practitioners to community support and personalized lifestyle plans. The company addresses a critical gap in healthcare – with 1.3 million American women entering menopause annually but fewer than 2,500 physicians certified in menopause medicine.

Berry’s approach combines practical healthcare solutions with emotional support, recognizing that every woman experiences menopause differently. Her platform offers access to menopause-trained physicians, group coaching sessions, and a community where women can openly discuss their experiences without shame or stigma.

The actress has found her most meaningful role yet in this advocacy work. “This is my greatest act,” she says. “And I couldn’t have imagined that this would be my greatest act because I think as women, we’ve been afraid to age.”
