Dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands—there’s no shortage of equipment options to furnish your workout. Having a gym full of options is nice, but sometimes you don’t want to fight for a squat rack or Smith machine during rush hour. And, you don’t have to—all you need to get a really good workout is a set of dumbbells.

Dumbbells can help improve the stability of your joints by increasing muscular strength, refining coordination, and strengthening connective tissues, Kristina Earnest, CPT told Women’s Health. By pairing them with your leg workouts, you’re able to build overall leg muscle strength and size, which can improve performance in cardiovascular-based activities you enjoy doing, like running or biking (and make day-to-day movements feel stronger, too).

You don’t have to spend hours in the gym to see results, either. This quick 5-step leg workout hits all the necessary muscle groups using nothing but dumbbells.

Instructions: Aim to do 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 10 reps of each move.
