There have been countless potentially deadly food recalls in the United States as of late, but none that we’ve reported on have turned from potentially fatal to fatal—until now. Sadly, ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals sold at popular chains Kroger and Walmart have been recalled due to a lethal listeria outbreak that has now caused three deaths, one fetal loss, and 17 illnesses as of June 20, 2025.

The ready-to-eat products, made by FreshRealm, were shipped to both Kroger and Walmart stores nationwide and include:

  • 32.8-ounce trays labeled “Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo With Fettuccine Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese” with a best-by date of June 27, 2025 or earlier

  • 12.3-ounce trays labeled “Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo With Fettuccine Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken, Broccoli and Shaved Parmesan Cheese” with a best-by date of June 26, 2025 or earlier

  • 12.5-ounce trays labeled “Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with Pasta, Grilled White Meat Chicken, and Parmesan Cheese” with a best-by date of June 19, 2025 or earlier.

The affected products contain establishment number “EST. P-50784,” “EST. P-47770,” and “EST. P-47718.” You can view the labels here.

“FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers,” states the USDA recall advisory. “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

Consuming food contaminated with listeria can cause listeriosis, a very serious infection that is particularly dangerous to those with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, newborns, and older adults. According to the recall, multiple public health organizations are investigating the outbreak, including FSIS, FDA, and CDC.

Anyone concerned should double-check their refrigerators and freezers to ensure all potentially contaminated products are thrown away or returned.
