Stephen King Calls New Horror Movie ‘Scary As Hell’ in Glowing Review originally appeared on Parade.
Given his extensive background in the larger horror genre, it’s safe to assume Stephen King knows a memorable horror story when he sees one.
The world-renowned author of such best-selling novels as The Shining, It, Carrie and The Stand, King has long since earned a reputation for his dark, often macabre novels and short stories, many of which have found their way into cinematic adaptations over the years.
An adept creative voice in horror, the 77-year-old King has also championed the work of numerous up-and-coming artists in the realm of horror, including younger filmmakers still eking out a name for themselves in the industry.
Just as he’d previously gone out of his way to praise recent horror epics like Companion, In a Violent Nature and Barbarian, the award-winning novelist has taken to social media to highlight another fantastic horror movie in the form of Bring Her Back.
A twisted supernatural horror story from the directors of A24’s Talk to Me, Bring Her Back follows two step-siblings forced to partake in an enigmatic ritual in order to resurrect their foster mother’s deceased daughter.
Sharing many of the same plot points as Talk to Me, Bring Her Back has earned rave reviews from critics and average audience members alike, with Rotten Tomatoes writing, “A domestic nightmare that draws its most profound scares from Sally Hawkins’ deranged performance, Bring Her Back is an exemplary chiller that reaffirms directors Danny and Michael Philippou as modern masters of horror.”
Just as most viewers haven’t held back in heaping praise on the new supernatural horror movie, King had nothing but positive words to share about his experience watching the film.
“I saw a wonderfully gruesome horror movie called BRING HER BACK this afternoon,” King remarked in a social media post. “Thoughtful, textured, and scary as hell.”
In response, A24 — the indie powerhouse who produced Bring Her Back and Talk to Me — shared King’s short review on their own Instagram page, humorously writing, “The King has spoken.”
