  • The price of a First Class Stamp has increased 7.4% to 78 cents. That’s the third increase in the past two years. It won’t be the last, either. The USPS says it plans to raise prices again twice next year and twice more in 2027.

At the start of 2024, a First Class stamp cost 66 cents. These days, you’ll pay 78 cents.

The U.S. Postal Service has raised prices once again. After two price increases last year, the USPS implemented another increase Sunday, this one a 7.4% jump for First Class stamps, with a wider series of price increases for other forms of postage.

That ties the record as the highest stamp increase ever and is the third 5-cent increase from the postal agency.

The Postal Regulatory Commission, which oversees the post office, approved the increase earlier this year. The USPS has repeatedly increased prices in recent years. The commission says the increased prices are necessary to “achieve the financial stability sought by the organization’s Delivering for America 10-year plan.”

Five years ago, a Forever stamp cost just 55 cents. That’s a 42% increase in that time.

Beyond Forever stamps, the USPS is raising prices on several other products:

  • Domestic postcards will jump from 56 cents to 62 cents

  • Letters weighing one ounce increase from 73 cents to 78 cents. The additional ounce price for single letters jumps from 28 cents to 29 cents

  • International postcards move from $1.65 to $1.70

  • International letter (1 ounce) will increase from $1.65 to $1.70

Even with the increase, you might want to grab those Forever Stamps now. The USPS told the Postal Regulatory Commission last year that it’s planning to raise prices again in January and July of both 2026 and 2027.
