Sooners Aim to Make the Beam Shake: Inside OU’s Push for a 10,000-Strong Home-Gym Crowd Against LSU

Oklahoma wants 10,000-plus fans Friday to rattle LSU the same way the Tigers shook Addison Fatta’s beam last season, and if the Sooners hit that number they will finally match the crowd size with the program’s seven national titles.

A crowd so loud the beam trembles

Last March in Baton Rouge, Addison Fatta mounted the balance beam inside a sold-out Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Somewhere between her flight series and dismount the four-inch-wide slab vibrated—literally. “The beam was actually physically shaking from the crowd being that loud,” she said. The announced gate: 13,386, the fourth-biggest in LSU history.

On Friday at 7:45 p.m. CT, the roles flip. No. 1 Oklahoma hosts No. 2 LSU at the Lloyd Noble Center, and Sooner staff have one target in mind: crack the 10,117 attendance record set vs. UCLA in 2019—the only time in program history the building has topped five digits.

“That five-digit attendance… should be regular, not unusual,” head coach K.J. Kindler said. She should know; in 2006, her first season, average home gates hovered around 600.

Two decades of crowd-building

Kindler, assistants Lou Ball and Tom Haley, and a marketing department that now partners with football and men’s basketball have engineered exponential growth:

  • 2022 average: just under 5,000
  • 2023: a little over 7,000
  • 2024: just over 8,600
  • 2025: 8,760

“We want this ticket to be hard to get,” Kindler said, noting SEC powers LSU, Florida and Alabama routinely pull 12,000-plus. The Sooners’ seven NCAA trophies haven’t yet translated into comparable stands.

Last year’s Baton Rouge lesson fuels the rivalry

When the programs met in 2025 regular season, Oklahoma entered as No. 1, LSU as No. 2. The.result: a .375-point Sooner loss, their worst regular-season margin since 2022. Four months later OU hoisted the national trophy anyway, but the rout in Red Stick lingers.

“So this is a little bit of a rivalry developing,” Kindler admitted. Combined the schools have won four straight NCAA titles (OU 2022, ’23, ’25; LSU 2024). Every judge’s score between them now doubles as SEC vs. Big 12 heavyweight fight and Olympic-camp résumé padding.

What a sellout would mean beyond one night

A 10,000-fan threshold carries weight far beyond a cool statistic:

  1. Recruiting signal: Prospects pick schools where their families can watch them compete in packed arenas.
  2. Scoring edge: Home crowds routinely sway meet vibe—and judges—by energizing stuck landings.
  3. Revenue windfall: A full Lloyd Noble pushes gate receipts north of six figures, funding scholarships and facility tweaks.
  4. SEC statement: OU joins the conference in 2025-26; proving it can match LSU rowdiness silences one major preseason doubt.

How to watch the heavyweight dual

  • Date: Friday, Feb. 20
  • 7:45 p.m. CT / 8:45 p.m. ET
  • TV: ESPN2
  • Stream: ESPN App (authenticated)

Projected lineups & scores to beat

Oklahoma enters off a 198.150 season high vs. Alabama. LSU countered with 197.900 vs. Missouri. Individual showdowns to track include:

  • Vault: OU’s Faith Torrez (perfect 10.0 start) vs. LSU Haleigh Bryant (Yurchenko 1.5)
  • Floor: Addison Fatta (choreo that scores 9.95-plus) vs. Kai Rivers (SEC freshman of the week)
  • All-around: OU’s Jordan Bowers (39.700 ceiling) vs. Bryant (2024 NCAA AA champion)

Final factor: the Sooners’ seventh-inning stretch

OU men’s basketball tips at 2 p.m., giving athletics staff a six-hour window to flip the arena, push group-sales pickups and walk-up traffic. Forecasts show clear skies and 48-degree temps—perfect for late-winter Norman foot traffic. Athletic director Joe Castiglione has approved pep-band microphones and crowd-prompt graphics calibrated to surpass 110 decibels, the level LSU crested last year.

Fatta insists she isn’t inventing a memory. The beam shook once; she wants it to shake again—this time in crimson and cream. If Oklahoma clears 10,117, the Sooners won’t just own the latest chapter of a budding rivalry; they’ll announce to the SEC that their new gym can roar like the old powers.
