Spike Lee said A$AP Rocky goes “toe-to-toe” with Denzel Washington in upcoming film, Highest 2 Lowest

Spike Lee is praising A$AP Rocky’s acting skills.
While appearing on the Thursday, July 31, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Lee, 68, said, “Yeah, don’t sleep on A$AP. In this film, Denzel and A$AP go toe-to-toe.”
“What’s interesting is, even before I got involved with this film, I always thought that A$AP looked like he could be Denzel’s son,” the Oscar-winning director continued. “There’s a big resemblance. So when you see it on the screen, it adds an element of father and son.”

Lee then revealed that he has seen other actors feel a lot of pressure when working with Denzel Washington, but that A$AP, 36, held his own. “Don’t sleep on A$AP,” he began. “I’ve done five films with Denzel, and a lot of times when he’s in a scene with somebody, they just get overwhelmed. He’s one of the greatest living actors today, but A$AP wasn’t having that. Toe-to-toe, I mean, they were going at it.”
Highest 2 Lowest is a neo-noir crime thriller based on Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 Japanese-language film High and Low, which was in turn based on the 1959 novel King’s Ransom by Ed McBain.
The rapper plays Washington’s son in the New York City-set film. The character is an aspiring rapper, while Washington runs a successful record label, Stackin Hits, and is the heir to Quincy Jones, per Billboard.

Highest 2 Lowest hits theaters on Aug. 22, before the film will be available to stream on AppleTV+ on Sept. 5.
