Sophie Turner is hopping on the butter yellow trend — and channeling a fan-favorite 2000s rom-com!
The Game of Thrones actress, 29, shared a series of photos to her Instagram on Friday, July 25, of her participating in a close friend’s wedding as a bridesmaid. The behind-the-scenes shots featured the actress posing alongside the bride and other bridesmaids in attendance at the nuptials.

In the images, Turner wore a slinky satin maxi dress in the trendy butter yellow shade. The dress featured a plunging halter neckline that dipped low enough to show off a hint of cleavage. The dress was also backless and hit her just above her hips.

The look was reminiscent of Andie Anderson’s backless dress in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, released in 2003. The character, played by Kate Hudson, wore the custom look — designed by Carolina Herrera and costume designer Karen Patch — in an iconic scene where Ben Berry, played by Matthew McConaughey, picks her up for a date.
While Turner’s version of the dress consisted of the same butter yellow shade, Anderson’s gown differed through a few key details. Instead of a halter neck, the dress in the movie featured a V-neckline. And while Andie’s dress was backless, it also featured a cross-strap detail at the lower back.

Turner’s dress was different from the other bridesmaids’ in the bridal party. In addition to Turner’s halter-neck dress, other bridesmaids opted for strapless, boatneck and Y-halter necklines — as well as subtle floral prints — with their dresses.

“To watch one of your oldest and best friends get married to a man you adore is a privilege, but to stand beside them both while it happens is something I can’t put into words,” Turner captioned her Instagram post. “I love you both 4eva @taura_lamb @jesse_burgess.”
Several celebrities have put their own spin on the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days dress. Country star Megan Moroney wore a version of the gown to the 2025 ACM Awards in May and told PEOPLE on the red carpet that the movie inspired her look for the night.

“I’m not a big movie watcher, but I didn’t know I was missing out on such a great movie,” she said. “I’ve been kind of obsessed with it, and I just wanted to wear yellow and I thought it’d be cute.”
Sabrina Carpenter celebrated her 25th birthday in 2024 with a mini version of butter yellow dress that was sourced from Depop. McConaughey’s wife, Camila Alves McConaughey, also wore a version of the gown for her 2024 NewBeauty en Español cover.

The original dress from the movie is nowhere to be found. In a September 2021 interview with Elle, Hudson revealed that she does not know where the dress is located.
“I have no idea where that dress is!” Hudson explained. “I know it was Carolina Herrera, and our amazing costume designer designed the dress with Carolina’s team.” She added, “I do not know where it is, but I feel like we should find it!”
