Sonic Is Reviving the Dollar Menu — But There’s a Catch originally appeared on Parade.
At this point, the dollar menu feels as vintage as Friends and crimped hair. McDonald’s officially did away with its dollar menu more than a decade ago, and so did all the other fast food restaurants. While they’ve since introduced value menus and limited discounted items, like Pizza Hut’s current $2 Personal Pan Pizza promotion, finding a true dollar menu anywhere is like finding Coke products in a Taco Bell—impossible! Especially in this economy.
But think again! Sonic, the drive-in chain famed for its discounted drinks, is taking us back in time and reviving the dollar menu. But of course, there is a catch.

Sonic is known for its happy hours, with half-priced drinks from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and half-priced shakes after 5 p.m. In similar fashion, its new dollar menu will only be available during a short three-hour window.
Snacky Hour will coincide with Happy Hour, but will even extend an hour longer, running from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., per The Fast Food Post. There are only three items available on Sonic’s dollar menu: the classic Sonic corn dog, a soft pretzel twist, and an order of two mozzarella sticks. Since the promo runs in conjunction with the existing Happy Hour, that means you can enjoy a half-priced cherry limeade and a couple corn dogs for less than $5. And all from the comfort of your car!
Reactions on Reddit were mixed. “They might as well not even have it,” one person wrote. “They had a perfectly good value menu up until a few years ago…$1.79 deluxe cheeseburger, $1 corn dogs and hot dogs, $1 cones, $1 value fries and tots, etc.” Ah, the good old days.
Another commenter was equally skeptical. “Hmmmm 2 mozzy sticks for 1,” they wrote. “Is that worth it?”
Despite the negativity, one person chose to look on the bright side, writing, “The pretzels are everything to me.”
