Did all go according to plan on Simone Biles’ wedding day? No, but she still thinks the special day was a 10/10.
The Olympic athlete married Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens (for the second time) during what appeared to be a picture-perfect destination ceremony in May 2023. However, while speaking with E! at the Time100 Gala on April 24, the gymnast revealed that there was a slight blip when it came to the outfits worn by Owens’ groomsmen.
“They weren’t wearing the correct colors I told them to, but it worked out,” she said after revealing that she and Owens decided to keep their — and their parties’ — wedding looks a secret from each other until they walked down the aisle.

When asked if she ended up addressing the blip, Biles said, “Oh, sure! Whenever we got on the side, I was like ‘What are they wearing?'” But, she doesn’t hold any grudges. “Don’t blame my husband, please. It’s not that he didn’t listen to me on my wedding day for the outfit. I know y’all love to blame him, but it was a good choice.”
Biles and Owens, both 28, celebrated their marriage with a 140-guest affair in Cabo San Lucas in May 2023 after legally tying the knot at the 1910 Harris County Courthouse in Houston, Texas in April that year.

For the symbolic occasion, Biles wore four different dress, including a “dramatic” custom Galia Lahav bridal gown featuring a sheer corset bodice adorned with floral appliqués. “I went with my gut feeling and what I felt the most beautiful in,” she told Vogue. “I actually got a dress that I originally said I wouldn’t like.”
Owens opted for a beige brocade suit topped with a coordinating bow tie while his groomsmen all wore custom emerald green suits from Adam Ross (Biles’ bridesmaids wore champagne-colored dresses from Revelry).

The couple will soon be hitting the red carpet together at the 2025 Met Gala on May 5 as a part of a star-studded committee that also includes Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Angel Reese and Usher. And it looks like the moment will come without any major surprises on their part — even if they are being dressed by two different designers.
“We have seen each other’s looks just so that they’re still a little bit cohesive with one another. That was really important,” she told E!.
Biles made her debut at the event in May 2021 dressed in a custom AREA x Athleta look designed by Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk of Area. According to Vogue, the ensemble featured an 88-lb. Swarovski crystal-embellished skirt.
Fashion’s biggest night will be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour, alongside honorary chair LeBron James. The theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” with a “Tailored for You” dress code, meant to invite “creative interpretation” according to Vogue.
