Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens Celebrate Their Wedding Anniversary One Day Early at 2025 Met Gala

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are stepping out in style at the 2025 Met Gala!

On Monday, May 5, the married couple who, alongside Doechii, Regina King, Angel Reese and others are serving on the event’s host committee, hit the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City wearing coordinated looks in honor of the evening’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

Biles, 28, wore a bright blue bustled minidress complete with, towering heels (that she previously joked are at least four or five inches tall), glittering black ornamentation and a satin finish, along with a flowing train. Meanwhile, Owens, 29, sported a an all-white suit with blue accents, and topped off his look with a white fur cape and black cane to truly embody this year’s theme.

Speaking to livestream hosts Teyana Taylor, La La Anthony and Ego Nwodim, the athlete couple joked that the Gala was “more stressful to get ready for than the Olympics.”

Additionally, the pair spoke to the hosts about their second wedding anniversary on Tuesday, and Owens called tonight’s event the “ultimate date night.”

“I’m just excited to be with my husband,” Biles gushed during the livestream, sharing that she and the Bears safety were doing “long distance” this month.

Ahead of the event, Biles also shared some posts to her Instagram Stories as she prepped for the star-studded evening.

“MET MONDAY,” Biles wrote over one selfie in which she smiled at the camera while wearing a hotel robe. Owens, wearing a black tee and a chain necklace, kisses her on the cheek in the sweet snap.

In October, Vogue announced that this year’s Met Gala co-chairs would be Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour, along with LeBron James as honorary chair.

Held as a fundraiser for The Costume Institute — and with the spotlight on its spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the star-studded event will also feature the dress code “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition, with a focus on menswear and suiting.

According to Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton, the museum’s exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”

The new exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.

Although tonight marks Owens’ Met Gala debut, Biles previously appeared at the event in 2021, when she rocked a custom AREA x Athleta dress designed by Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk of AREA.

The legendary gymnast’s look, per Vogue, consisted of an 88-lb. Swarovski crystal-embellished skirt, a minidress underneath and a night-sky-inspired bodysuit.

“How do I feel in the dress? It’s definitely heavy, but I feel beautiful, strong and empowered,” she told the outlet at the time, walking the red carpet.

Her look also marked the first time that activewear brand Athleta, who has sponsored Biles since 2021, had designed a look for the Met Gala.

“This moment is particularly emblematic of Athleta’s commitment to supporting their athletes as whole people, and recognizing their passions and achievements in and outside of sport,” a rep for the brand said in a statement at the time.

The Olympian and pro football player have been known to step out in style for date nights in the past. Earlier this month, the couple sat courtside at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, to watch the Houston Rockets take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud was also in attendance.

In addition to being shown on the jumbotron, as caught by one fan in attendance on X, the couple made their presence known by attending the game in their best date-night attire.

Biles rocked another sporty look with a chic twist by wearing an oversize white Balenciaga jean jacket with black knee-high leather boots. She accessorized with silver rings, a small necklace and a black Hermès Kelly with palladium hardware and wore her hair in a short bob, which she recently brought back in March, parted down the middle.

Owens coordinated with her look by wearing a gray graphic tee, ripped lightwash jeans and matching sneakers. Like his wife, he accented his outfit with silver jewelry, including a ring, watch and necklaces. He completed the look with a pair of glasses.

The couple got engaged in February 2022 and wed during an intimate courthouse ceremony in Texas on April 22, 2023. Nearly a month later, in May, they held a luxurious ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, where they tied the knot again in front of family and friends.

Following their 2023 nuptials, Biles and Owens had a busy 2024 with Owens signing a two-year free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears and leaving the Green Bay Packers. Biles, meanwhile, competed in the Paris Summer Olympics, taking home four medals.
