Shaun White is having “fun” wedding planning!
While speaking to PEOPLE about his new partnership with the gummy supplement company Grüns, the retired professional snowboarder, 38, gave a rare update on how wedding planning is coming along with his fiancée, Nina Dobrev, 36.
Since proposing to Dobrev in October 2024, White tells PEOPLE that it’s been “amazing” to envision their life together as husband and wife.
“It’s like you took that next step and yeah, it’s just a fun sort of planning phase of life,” he says. “Like, ‘What’s the next steps, and the next chapter and where do we want to be?’ It’s fun. It’s fun to have somebody to plan all that with.”

White’s future with Dobrev has “really become the focal point” of his plans. The first thing on his to-do list with her is to organize their wedding — which so far has been “really fun.”
“It’s very exciting to have new aspirations and new things that we’re going after and together. It’s very humbling and very exciting, and she’s excited,” White says. “We’ve gotten a lot of advice from different people who have planned their own weddings and things. So we’re definitely gathering information and now trying to see what’s going to work best for us in any way.”
The couple, who previously shared that they don’t want to “rush” their engagement, are now on the hunt for a wedding planner.
“So we’re still just looking for a planner to plan the wedding,” White says. “I’m not capable of this and luckily, like, I want to be involved, but logistically I’m not, it’s not my strong suit. So I think visually I’m getting involved with what I want, but we’re still looking for someone to help bring our ideas to life.”
The groom-to-be remembers everyone in his life being “thrilled” over his New York City engagement.
“Oh, everyone was thrilled. It was such an easy sort of like, ‘Oh yeah, well that makes sense,’ ” White says. “Basically it was like, ‘Oh, yeah, yeah.’ So yeah, no, everybody was definitely encouraging and super supportive and that’s always nice.”
“And her family is amazing,” he adds. “So I got to call mom and dad and chat with them. It was really nice. I had to wake up dad in Bulgaria. I was like, ‘Oh, I’m sorry. What time is it there?’ “

White and Dobrev haven’t officially taken a trip or done anything “specific” to celebrate their engagement together, but White teases that The Vampire Diaries alum might have something special in store for her soon.
“I know her friends are kind of talking about something in the works right now,” he shares, noting, “She’s not easily surprised.”
As for White, he’s celebrating how his convenient, vitamin-packed Grüns gummy supplements are supporting his active lifestyle.
“That’s one of the things that I really dig about Grüns — it really supports your gut health,” he says, adding that when he’s traveling, “I definitely need something to help balance out my diet and things like that.”
