Shakira wore a pink Prabal Gurung gown with a massive train to the event, marking her second-ever Met Gala following her 2023 debut
Shakira’s second-ever Met Gala look was down to the wire!
On Monday, May 5, the pop star, 48, made a statement at fashion’s biggest night in a Prabal Gurung gown with a massive, sweeping train. But, just before arriving at the event, the dress required some last-minute effort — and Nicole Scherzinger captured a behind-the-scenes look.
Ahead of their arrival, Scherzinger, 46, shared a clip of herself, Shakira and several more stars en route to the Met Gala in a limo on her Instagram Stories, while the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer was being sewn into her baby pink dress.

“This is the behind the scenes that people don’t see,” the former Pussycat Dolls songstress said in the video of Shakira smiling and laughing as someone worked on the back of the gown.

Noticing the camera, the “She Wolf” singer threw her head back exasperatedly and joked she was “suffering.”
“Poor Shakira. She just said, ‘Ow!’ ‘Cause the needle,” Scherzinger continued, as Shakira added that “it’s not the first time today.”

By the time the “Waka Waka” musician arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, however, it appeared that everything was in check.

Shakira’s pink gown at the gala, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” featured figure-framing cut-outs in the front and the back, a billowing, puffed-out train that trailed far behind her. (Perhaps the only train that rivaled it was Diana Ross’s feathery, 18-foot-long number.)
The singer teamed the gown with a pair of sheer-black gloves with cuffs in a matching shade of pink; a sparkling, statement necklace; and an ultra-pink glam. Her prominent pink blush and matching lip popped alongside her warm-toned hair, which she wore down in her signature, wavy style.

This year’s gala spotlights the Met’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which doubles as the theme. The dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting.
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton said that the exhibition — which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity — explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.” It “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” per the museum’s Instagram.

Shakira made her Met Gala debut last year at the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,”-themed event in a bright red, flamenco-style Carolina Herrera gown with a similarly dramatic train and matching heels.

And, much like this year, her debut was also preceded by a fashion emergency of sorts.
In an interview with Vogue, stylist Nicolas Bru said the team encountered a little bit of an emergency when the shoes came out the wrong color and needed to be re-dyed last minute. The styling team was intentional about getting “the perfect monochromatic look,” Bru told the magazine.
