Senate Democrat mimics Trump: ‘THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER’

Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) on Thursday mocked President Trump’s traditional use of capitalized letters and repeating exclamation points on social media, voicing her opposition to the food stamp and Medicaid cuts included in the GOP’s ‘big, beautiful” spending and tax bill.

“GOP’S BIG UGLY BILL KICKS PEOPLE OFF HEALTH CARE AND FOOD ASSISTANCE. HOSPITALS WILL CLOSE. KIDS WITH DISABILITIES WILL LOSE CAREGIVERS. BIG WINNERS? BILLIONAIRES. TOTAL FRAUD!” Murray wrote in a post on social platform X.

“IT POLLS LIKE GARBAGE, BECAUSE IT IS. GOP SHOULD DROP IT!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER,” she added.

The sarcastic nod from the Senate’s former pro tempore comes as Congress has faced weeks of pressure from Trump to pass the megabill before the July 4 holiday.

The House passed their version of the bill in May. The legislation has faced a steeper climb in the Senate, as lawmakers have been divided over deficit spending, state and local tax (SALT) deduction caps and how much to cut from programs such as food stamps and Medicaid.

Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough has also rejected many provisions within the upper chamber’s blueprint that do not meet the Byrd Rule requirements — or those she deems unnecessary for the budget’s purpose. The move has angered some Republicans, who have called for her to step down.

GOP leaders Sen. John Thune (S.D.) and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) have been optimistic that they will pass the bill. Trump upped the pressure during a White House event Thursday, urging lawmakers to continue negotiating — even over the weekend — to get the bill to his desk.

“There are hundreds of things here,” he told the crowd, according to The Guardian. “It’s so good.”

“If you can, call your senators, call your congressmen. We have to get the vote,” he added.
