Seahawks-Patriots Redux: A Familiar Super Bowl Favorite Emerges in Santa Clara

The stage is set for a Super Bowl showdown between the AFC and NFC’s best teams, with the Seattle Seahawks opening as the early 4.5-point favorite over the New England Patriots in a rematch of a classic 11 years in the making.

Nearly 11 years ago, the New England Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks by four points to win Super Bowl XLIX. Now, history is poised to repeat itself, at least in the eyes of oddsmakers, who have installed Seattle as the early favorite for Super Bowl LX.

Hours after both teams booked their tickets to Santa Clara, sportsbooks listed the Seahawks as the betting favorite, with the opening line in the 4-to-5-point range. Both DraftKings and FanDuel listed Seattle as a 4.5-point favorite, with BetMGM putting the number at 5.

The Super Bowl will be played in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 8. Both teams finished the regular season with identical 14-3 records, tied with the Denver Broncos for the best record in the league. The Broncos secured the No. 1 seed via a tiebreaker, but the Patriots punched their ticket by defeating Denver 10-7 in a snowy AFC Championship Game.

In the NFC Championship, the Seahawks held off their division rival, the Los Angeles Rams, winning 31-27 in the third meeting between the teams this season. The victory capped a dominant defensive performance that has been the Seahawks’ calling card all year.

Seattle had the stingiest defense in the NFL in 2025, allowing just 17.2 points per game. The Patriots were not far behind, ranking fourth at 18.8 points allowed per game. This defensive prowess is a key reason why the point spread is relatively low, despite both teams boasting high-octane offenses. The Patriots were the NFL’s second-highest scoring team at 28.8 points per game, with the Seahawks right behind at 28.4.

The over/under sits at 46.5 across most books, suggesting a scoring contest more in line with the Seahawks-Rams shootout than the defensive slugfest in Denver. This projection is further supported by the teams’ exceptional records against the spread this season. According to teamrankings.com, the Seahawks and Patriots are the best teams against the spread, including playoffs. Seattle is 14-5-0 against the spread (ATS), while New England is 13-6-1.

While the focus is on the team matchup, early betting action on individual prop bets provides a window into the perceived key players. As the quarterback of the betting favorite, Seattle’s Sam Darnold is the betting favorite for Super Bowl MVP with odds in the plus-130 range. New England’s Drake Maye is the second choice at around plus-235. The only other players with odds shorter than plus-1000 are Seahawks receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba (plus-500) and running back Kenneth Walker III (plus-700).

This will be the second Super Bowl meeting between these two franchises. The first, in Super Bowl XLIX, was a classic that ended with a dramatic goal-line interception by Patriots defensive back Malcolm Butler with 20 seconds left, sealing a 28-24 victory for New England and denying the Seahawks back-to-back championships.

For fans of both teams, this rematch is a chance for redemption. For the Seahawks, it’s an opportunity to avenge the heartbreaking loss and finally bring a Lombardi Trophy back to Seattle. For the Patriots, it’s a chance to prove that their dynasty is not a memory but a present-day force. The stage is set for a battle of two of the league’s most successful and respected organizations, and the football world will be watching.
