Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) dismissed a question about his 17-percent approval rating when asked by CNN’s Manu Raju Tuesday whether the 74-year-old leader is becoming a political “liability” for his own party.

Schumer argued that “polls come and go” when asked about a new poll showing that he has the lowest approval rating of any congressional leader.

A CNN poll released on Tuesday showed that Schumer has a 17 percent favorable rating and a 44 percent unfavorable rating, his worst approval numbers in a CNN poll dating back to 2017.

“There’s a poll out today that has your approval rating lower than any other congressional leader at 17 percent. Are you concerned that you may be a liability for your party?” Raju, CNN’s Capitol Hill correspondent, asked the veteran New York Democrat.

“Polls come and go. Our party is united. We’re on our front foot, we’re stepping forward, going after Trump and having real success,” Schumer declared.

Schumer was also asked about his approval rating during an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Tuesday evening.

Asked if his numbers are “concerning,” Schumer replied: “No.”

“What we are doing is we are showing the contrast between trump and us — and the Democrats — and the American people, day in day out, learn that we are for keeping Medicaid and Social Security, learn that we want to get rid of these horrible tariffs,” he said.

He noted that the Senate will vote Wednesday on bipartisan legislation to undo Trump’s reciprocal tariffs announced earlier this month on “Liberation Day,” which created major turmoil in the stock and bond markets.

“We’re fighting every day,” Schumer said. “What Trump is doing is giving us the opportunity and the necessity to show the contrast between us and the Republicans.”
