Ryan Reynolds Addresses Backlash For Daughter’s Explicit ‘Deadpool’ Line

Ryan Reynolds is under fire after reports surfaced that his daughter, Inez, now 8, delivered a sexually explicit line in the new superhero film “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

The controversy has ignited a wave of criticism from parents and Ryan Reynolds fans, many of whom are questioning the decision to have a young child participate in the scene.

In the film, Inez reportedly voices Kidpool, a variant of Deadpool, and delivers the line: “Hey, when I want your opinion, I’ll take Wolverine’s d-ck out of your mouth.”

However, according to a script hosted on Disney.com, the line was altered slightly to, “Hey! When we want your opinion, I’ll take my d-ck out of your mouth!”

In the same scene, another character, Nicepool, responds, “That’s Kidpool. He’s the dirtiest.”

Inez was believed to be around 7 years old when she recorded the controversial line.

Many critics have taken to Reddit to voice their disapproval.

One commenter wrote, “There’s no reason she needed to deliver that line herself. It’s a character with a mask and no visible mouth, it could easily have been dubbed over.”

Another added, “Or just remove the line completely. If a comedy writer can’t make an equally funny line that an actor feels comfortable saying, maybe they shouldn’t be a writer.”

A third Reddit user, identifying as a parent, said, “She’s the same age as my kid. I couldn’t imagine ANYTHING that would 1. get me to do this to my kid (or any kid) or 2. would be okay with my husband having done it.”

“I wouldn’t care if it was just swearing, but getting a kid to make a sexual joke is gross,” someone else expressed.

“This is just gross and weird,” another said.

Reynolds acknowledged the moment during a commentary track recorded with director Shawn Levy, according to multiple outlets, including Page Six.

“Guiltily, that is my daughter Inez,” Reynolds said.

Levy responded, “I’m so sorry we have to admit that.”

The “Deadpool” star went on to explain that Inez initially resisted saying the line. “I am father of the year over here for allowing her to say such language, which, to her credit, she really didn’t want to say.”

Reynolds claimed that she changed her mind once she realized someone else might take over the role, saying, “‘I want to say it now’” when he “started looking at other people to play” her character.

According to Levy, Inez ended up performing “70 to 500 versions of that line,” a decision he admitted was “to their discredit.” Reynolds, perhaps predicting the reaction, added, “I’m gonna pay for that later.”

Still, following the film’s release, Reynolds shared a light-hearted tribute to his daughter on Instagram.

“Only costar I argued with. Most people think Kidpool is the dirtiest,” he said. “But she’s also pretty good at backtalk and never taking out the trash.”

This controversy comes as Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, are entangled in a high-stakes legal battle with “It Ends With Us” director Justin Baldoni. The couple has accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and other misconduct, allegations which he denies. Baldoni is countersuing for defamation and extortion in a lawsuit seeking $400 million.

Baldoni claims that Lively and Reynolds tried to sway the production of “It Ends With Us” by leveraging their relationship with Taylor Swift. In an attempt to defend himself publicly, he shared behind-the-scenes footage of him and Lively dancing on set, along with a website that he says contains text message exchanges between them.

Lively claims Baldoni’s lawsuit is retaliatory, insisting she’s telling the truth about his alleged behavior. She also alleges he attempted to orchestrate a smear campaign against her. Both Reynolds and Lively have moved to dismiss the countersuit, a move Baldoni’s attorney Bryan Freedman called “cowardly,” stating that they “need to be held accountable.”

A trial is set for March 2026.
