Rosie O’Donnell is celebrating her daughter, Vivienne “Vivi” O’Donnell’s college graduation!
On May 6, O’Donnell took to Instagram to announce that Vivienne will soon be a University of Delaware graduate. The post featured three photos that showed Vivienne wearing her college sash and graduation cords over a white dress. The first image showed the college student sitting on steps with a small dog on her lap. Both Vivienne and the dog looked toward the camera. The 22-year-old stood before a fountain in the following snap. In the final photo, Vivienne threw her graduation cap in the air while holding the dog.
“my smart beautiful loving daughter vivi is graduating from college- im so proud of her!!!! #congratulations #govivi,” read the caption of O’Donnell’s post.
Several Instagram users congratulated O’Donnell and her daughter in the comments section. For instance, one commenter wrote, “Huge congrats, mom! Your daughter is stunning, and that adorable little pup of hers is just precious! 😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
“Congratulations👏👏👏 Now Thé fun begins! The stages of Life!!! About every 10 yrs brings a new adventure! Enjoy!!” shared another.
“Congrats to vivi- great job! You must be so proud of her 👏❤️🙌❤️,” commented a fan.
O’Donnell discussed her daughter’s time at the University of Delaware during a September 2022 interview with People magazine. According to O’Donnell, Vivienne, whom she shares with her ex-wife Kelli Carpenter, was doing well academically.
“She was on the Dean’s List. I was very proud of her. She’s a great student and she’s loving college and she got her own apartment and she’s good,” said O’Donnell to People.
While speaking to the publication, O’Donnell noted that she and her daughter had a playful back-and-forth in a series of 2022 TikTok videos. O’Donnell explained it started because her daughter disagreed with some social media users who applauded her mother for keeping her childhood “normal.”
“A lot of people wrote in and said how great I was at keeping it normal. And [Vivienne] was like, ‘Normal?’ She called me first and said, ‘Normal, Mom. Most people, it’s not normal to have a lesbian icon as a mother who fights with the president, while you are in high school. That’s not normal,'” said O’Donnell to People magazine. “So she was kind of ribbing me and teasing in the way that we do. And then I went, what do you mean? You’re not calling me normal. I’m going to tell all your secrets, kid. It was just comedy.”
O’Donnell has four other children, Parker, Chelsea, Blake, Vivienne, and Clay.
