Few can own the Met Gala red carpet quite like Rosalía. Tonight, the singer arrived wearing an all-white sculptural Olivier Rousteing gown that was fitted perfectly to her body. In an interview on the carpet, Rousteing explained that he was inspired by the night’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” to craft a dress that nodded to the mannequin or “the beginning of the creation.” In keeping with that idea, Rousteing also brought a sewing machine onto the carpet as a prop.
Rosalía has already had fans talking since Sunday, when she was photographed in New York City wearing a white slogan T-shirt that read “Protect Me From What I Want,” paired with a billowing drop-waist skirt and neon-cleated New Balance sneakers.
Last year, Rosalía wore a black Dior Haute Couture look to the Met Gala that took over 1,800 hours to create, complete with a bustier, long skirt, and dramatic veil. The ensemble referenced the “Sleeping Beauty” theme in its own minimalist way; her stylist, Evanie Frausto, noted the use of black as representing the first thing you see when your eyes close to dream, explaining to Vogue, “To her, [Rosalía] it felt like a very pure feeling.”
Since her Met Gala debut in 2021, where she stunned in an avant-garde Rick Owens ensemble, Rosalía has consistently brought standout, conceptual looks to fashion’s biggest night.
Her arrival at tonight’s event also comes ahead of her highly anticipated new album. While she has yet to confirm a release date, Rosalía has described the process of making the album, calling it a personal and artistic evolution. “I’ve changed a lot,” she told Highsnobiety last fall. “But I still have the same questions and the same desire to answer them.”
She’s also coming off a major collaboration with Blackpink’s Lisa on the single “New Woman,” a track that has drawn acclaim for its empowering lyrics.
