Robert De Niro is ready for his close-up as he steps out in France ahead of the 78th Cannes Film Festival.
The Oscar-winning actor, 81, held hands with girlfriend Tiffany Chen as they posed for photos at a photo call at Palais des Festivals on Tuesday, May 13. The martial arts professional, 45, kept it simple in an A-line strapless dress with a cream cardigan and flats. The Taxi Driver star, for his part, wore a collared polo shirt with a blazer over it.
The couple, who share a daughter, Gia, 2, are in town to celebrate De Niro who will be awarded the prestigious Honorary Palme d’Or during the festival’s opening ceremony.
His good pal Leonardo DiCaprio is set to present him with the honor. The duo most recently collaborated on Martin Scorsese‘s 2023 film Killers of the Flower Moon, but they also starred together in DiCaprio’s breakout film This Boy’s Life in 1993.
“I have such close feelings for Festival de Cannes…Especially now when there’s so much in the world pulling us apart, Cannes brings us together — storytellers, filmmakers, fans, and friends,” De Niro said in a statement, per Variety. “It’s like coming home.”
The festival released a statement that said, “There are faces that stand in for the seventh Art, and lines of dialogue that leave an indelible mark on cinephilia. With his interiorized style, which surfaces in a gentle smile or a harsh gaze, Robert De Niro has become a cinematic legend.”
