Dialog, a secretive organization founded by billionaire tech moguls, is reportedly plotting a major expansion into the Washington, D.C., suburbs.
The group, created some 20 years ago by Peter Thiel and Auren Hoffman, is in talks to buy land for a permanent campus in Northern Virginia, Axios reported Thursday. Dubbed a modern-day Bilderberg for the tech elite, Dialog has drawn comparisons to the closed-door summits of global power brokers that have long fueled speculation about centralized world governance. The move signals a long-term interest in influencing Washington’s political ecosystem — possibly well beyond President Donald Trump’s current term. The next major Dialog event is slated for spring, with smaller retreats planned earlier, including one in the Middle East this fall, the outlet reported.
The group has no public website, releases no member list, and avoids media coverage. Its gatherings, strictly off the record, reportedly draw around 100 handpicked attendees and have been held at ultra-exclusive venues like the Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain in Arizona and the San Clemente Palace Venice, according to the outlet.
Framed as a retreat from the always-on chaos of modern life, Dialog pitches itself as a haven where global elites can speak freely across ideological lines — off the record, off their phones, and far from the reach of social media, the press, or their stakeholders, according to one invitee who spoke to Axios. “Given declining trust in institutions and anti-establishment fervor,” the source said, “the group actively keeps its inner workings secretive and hidden from public scrutiny.” The source added that Dialog’s cloak of privacy lets members float “controversial and concerning ideas” they would “not be comfortable sharing elsewhere.”
Reported past attendees include Elon Musk, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, former Harvard President Larry Summers, venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya, Democratic Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Sens. Cory Booker and Ted Cruz, Jared Kushner, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Russian chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov, according to the outlet.
Dialog is also reportedly in talks to acquire at least one similar invite-only group, aiming to consolidate its reach among the global elite.
