Regina King pulled out all the stops for the 2025 Met Gala.
The actress turned heads at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 5, wearing Who Decides War.
King took the Met Gala steps in a bespoke suit that features a large collar and meticulously structured lines. The bodice is adorned with intricate angel embroidery, drawing inspiration from biblical narratives reimagined through the cultural lens of people of color.

When talking to Good Morning America, King said the design on her bodice “means everything.”
“The woman always feels like the pulse of the earth, everything has to come through us. It’s connection to your ancestors. We are able to stand up, lean on them,” she said.
In October, Vogue announced Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would be co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala. LeBron James was honorary chair but did not attend.
King is part of the Met Gala’s host committee, which also includes Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, Doechii, Spike Lee, Angel Reese, and Usher.
The event is a fundraiser for the Costume Institute and highlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which is the theme for the gala.
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton shared that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
The Met Gala’s dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting.
King was previously tapped to co-chair the gala in 2022 alongside Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda, but was unable to attend the event.
The 2022 Met Gala occurred months after King’s son Ian Alexander Jr. died by suicide at the age of 26.

King previously attended the 2019 Met Gala in a shimmering gold custom-made Oscar de la Renta gown. The actress shared that the dress was inspired in part by the film Reckless and the fictional character Dominique Deveraux from ABC’s soap opera Dynasty.
While speaking with Vanity Fair about the dress, Oscar de la Renta designers Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim said the gown was constructed with double corsets featuring sequins, crystals, and glass silver-line caviar beads.
“The embroidery is dégradé from top to bottom and ombré from warm gold to rose gold — almost undetectably, but it really adds to the dimension and luster of the piece. Gold crinoline netting is framed, accordion-pleated, strip-sewn together, and draped over one shoulder,” they told the outlet.

While speaking to PEOPLE on the carpet, she revealed that it took her three or four hours to get ready for the event.
“We stopped and started, and then the tequila arrived and we stopped again,” said King. “That’s most important, right? To have fun throughout all of this.”
In a recent interview with Byrdie, King revealed why good skin care is one of her most essential beauty secrets.
“Skincare has always been important to me—probably because of how my grandmother and my mother valued it,” she said. “Knowing that your skin is the largest organ and the first thing people see, it really shapes your understanding. Your skin reflects what’s happening inside your body.”
