Rachel Zegler has booked her first new movie role since Snow White hit theaters in March.
On Wednesday, April 30, the U.K.-based production company Embankment Films announced that Zegler, 23, will costar with Marisa Tomei as Tomei’s onscreen daughter in an upcoming comedy-drama titled She Gets It from Me.
Zegler and Tomei are set to portray a mother-daughter duo in the movie. “YouTube is packed with tearful family reunions, but nobody films the messy aftermath,” an official synopsis reads. “Nicky’s (Zegler) engagement celebration turns into a search for her pill-popping, ex-punk rocker birth mother, Charlotte (Tomei). Based on a true story, the two of them embark on an anarchic mother and daughter journey to reconnect.”

She Gets It from Me will be directed by German filmmaker Julia von Heinz, who most recently released a movie titled Treasure in 2024. “The emotional truth of the movie, reflecting parts of all our lives, is truly funny, immersive cinema,” von Heinz said in a statement about the movie, noting that screenwriter Jay Reiss’ script “captures family dynamics at their most authentic: absurd yet profound, messy yet meaningful. The collision of two worlds creates comedy that cuts deep because it’s so honest.”

Zegler has starred in a smattering of movies in the last four years, beginning with her big screen debut in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 adaptation of West Side Story. In 2024, she starred in the A24 disaster comedy Y2K and voiced a princess in the animated movie Spellbound. Most recently, Zegler and Gal Gadot costarred in Disney’s live-action reimagining of its own classic animated film Snow White, which was poorly received by critics and subjected to a significant amount of backlash in the years since Zegler was first cast in the lead role in 2021.
