(The Center Square) – Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker delivered a few jabs at the Trump administration and Elon Musk during a commencement address Sunday.
Pritzker was given an honorary doctorate by Knox College this weekend, just before he delivered a commencement address. The Democratic governor gave the graduates some of what he called “dad-vice.” Pritzker said to limit how many streaming services you have.
“I have found that if you have access to at least one good post-apocalyptic drama, plus one hilarious but heartwarming comedy, and either one of the two documentaries about the Fyre Festival, all your entertainment needs will be met,” Pritzker said.
He also advised to turn the lights off when you leave the room and to fill up your tires.
“I know that when that little tire gauge comes on on your dashboard, you view it in the same way that Elon Musk views the United States Constitution as a mere suggestion,” Pritzker said to laughter. “But if you’re not putting air in your tires before the winter, then you are going to end up just like Elon with a car that no one wants to drive.”
The governor also said it’s important to simply show up and to also have some doubt.
“Put your pants on. Go out and greet the uncertainty that awaits us. But we need doubt to survive in it. Because doubt makes us curious. Doubt keeps us humble,” Pritzker said.
He didn’t mention President Donald Trump by name, but did make a jab at the Trump administration.
“Should I trust everything that my uncle posts on Facebook? Is it a good idea to accept a jumbo jet from a foreign country that would very much like to spy on us?” Pritzker said.
The Trump administration recently accepted a Boeing 747 from the country of Qatar.
More than 200 graduated from Knox College Sunday. The college in Galesburg was established in 1837.
