Princess Diana’s niece Lady Kitty Spencer married in Italy on July 24, 2021, and for her fourth wedding anniversary returned to the country, this time with her 2-year-old daughter in her arms.
Kitty is notoriously private about her personal life, and, while she has started showing her daughter Athena more and more on her Instagram, it is always with the toddler’s back to the camera. Such was the case in Kitty’s carousel of photos on July 24, which showed mother and daughter adorably twinning in matching purple and white Dolce & Gabbana dresses. (Kitty is a brand ambassador for the fashion house and famously wore five creations by Dolce & Gabbana for her wedding four years ago.)
“Under the Tuscan sun 🍇,” Kitty wrote alongside photos that included mother and daughter looking out over the water, looking at a purple mini car, admiring architecture and vineyards, and little Athena on a carousel. “Purple is Athena’s favorite color at the moment, so the Fiat 500 was a hit!💜”
Alongside Kitty’s Dolce & Gabbana minidress, she wore Hermès Oran slides and carried a quilted white Chanel bag.
Kitty didn’t reveal Athena’s April 29, 2023 birth until Mother’s Day 2024, writing at the time, “It’s the joy of my life to be your mummy, little one. I love you unconditionally. Happy Mother’s Day to those who celebrate today.” For Athena’s second birthday earlier this year, Kitty celebrated by writing on Instagram, “Two years of you lighting up our world, my darling Athena. You are sunshine and joy and all things major. My little girl forever.”
“How proud I am to be your mummy,” Kitty continued. “I love you more than you could ever imagine or I could ever articulate.”
In addition to Kitty, Athena has also captured the hearts of her aunts, twins Lady Amelia Spencer and Lady Eliza Spencer (Kitty’s younger sisters). “She’s very similar to the twins,” Kitty told Tatler of Athena. “It’s so funny…so cool for her when she has these two aunts that come bursting through the door. I don’t think she thinks there’s an age gap,” to which Amelia cheekily added, “I don’t think we think there’s an age gap.”
“So there’s actually a triplet there for them,” Kitty continued. “When the girls are on the phone and she doesn’t want them to go, she pulls out her whole repertoire of tricks.”

Kitty added that Athena “is very outdoorsy and like a spinning top,” calling her a “little Taurus” and remarking that she “certainly has two doting, laughing aunts, who say they are ‘steering her in our direction.’”
Kitty’s wedding to Michael Lewis was held four years ago today at Villa Aldo Brandini, a 17th century Italian mansion. “For the main dress, she wanted to keep a fairly traditional, clean cut, but at the same time she desired to have a timeless allure,” Stefano Gabbana told Tatler. To this, Domenico Dolce added, “One of the inspirations is definitely her love for Italy. Kitty is in love with our beautiful country and its rich history, art, and culture.”

Kitty told The London Evening Standard in 2021 that “the love and passion I feel for life is ignited in Italy. I hope to have a proper base there someday, and it is certainly where I would like to retire.”
While Kitty is a long way from retirement, she admitted to Tatler that, since the birth of Athena over two years ago, she is taking on “a lot less” when it comes to work projects. “I’m much more selective because it’s not really free time anymore,” she said. “I’ve got to really want to do something,” adding that she’s “happy with the balance.”
