Princess Alexandra made a rare public appearance at the Sovereign’s Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst on Friday to celebrate her grandson Alexander Ogilvy’s graduation.

Princess Alexandra, 88, is a cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II and served as a bridesmaid at her wedding to Prince Philip in 1947. The only living granddaughter of King George V, she has significantly scaled back her royal appearances in recent years. Though she joined the royals on the balcony after King Charles and Queen Camilla’s coronation, she has not participated in a Trooping balcony appearance since 2022. Alexandra was last spotted arriving for the royal family’s annual Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace.

At the graduation, she was joined by her granddaughter Flora Vesterberg, as well as her son, James Ogilvy, and her daughter-in-law Julia. The Sovereign’s Parade is held three times a year to mark the completion of officer cadet training at Sandhurst. Graduates of the 44-week course are formally commissioned into the British Army. After enrolling last year, his graduation enters him into a small group of royals who are alums of the institution, including Prince William, Prince Harry, and Prince Edward.

Vesterberg, elegantly outfitted in a blue floral dress and cape by Emilia Wickstead, shared a message of congratulations for her brother to her Instagram account over the weekend: “On our way to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to celebrate my wonderful brother! Congratulations @acogilvy on your graduation – and for your acceptance into the Household Cavalry. Very proud of our British Army Officer!”

Before attending Sandhurst, Alexander Ogilvy studied at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh and later earned a degree from Brown University in 2020, where he majored in computer science and economics and captained the rugby team. Prior to college 2016, he spent a gap year in Australia at Scots College in Sydney, coaching rugby and mentoring students in Indigenous education.
