More than a quarter of a million pressure washers are being recalled over a safety risk involving fire and explosions, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Thursday, Aug. 28.
TTI Outdoor Power Equipment, Inc., of Anderson, South Carolina, is recalling some of its RYOBI Electric Pressure Washers, according to a CPSC online post.
The capacitor in the pressure washer can overheat and burst, potentially ejecting parts and posing a serious injury risk to the user or bystanders due to impact, according to the post.
As of the recall date, TTI Outdoor Power Equipment reported that it had received 135 reports of capacitors overheating, including 41 instances of explosions, resulting in 32 injuries or fractures to fingers, hands, faces and eyes.
The company did not elaborate on the extent of the injuries.

Model: RY142711VNM – Electric 2700 PSI Pressure Washer with the following serial numbers:
LT21411D090001
LT21425D090999
About 16,000 were sold in Canada, according to the CPSC, and nearly 764,000 were sold in the United States, the safety agency reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled pressure washers and visit https://www.ryobitools.com/recall to determine if their pressure washer is included in the recall.
Eligible customers will receive a free repair kit, with free shipping and installation instructions. Proof of purchase is not required.
