In a Reddit post, the woman seeks advice about the situation
A woman whose mother-in-law is seemingly co-opting her pregnancy says she doesn’t want her meeting her baby.
In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous 18-year-old writes that she and her mother-in-law have never been close, despite the fact she’s been with the woman’s son for three years.
“She’s always has rude comments to say to me but I’ve always just ignored her to try and protect my peace but since I’ve been pregnant things have been weird,” she writes. “When I first found out I was pregnant she wanted to come to all my appointments which was fine, however it’s became a problem because everyone thinks she’s pregnant and not me.”
She continues: “She crops me out of every pregnancy photo and posts my ultrasounds as her own saying ‘MY BABY’ or ‘MY DAUGHTER.’ People will comment on her Facebook posts saying ‘congratulations.’ I didn’t know what to do so I liked every congratulations comment and commented back saying ‘thank you’ and making it clear that this is her GRANDCHILD and NOT her child!!!”
But the mother-in-law deleted the comments and eventually blocked the woman, even referring to the baby as “Mia,” despite the fact the child will be named “Scarlett.”
To add insult to injury, the woman held her own baby shower for the child — and didn’t invite the mom-to-be.
When the poster told the woman she wouldn’t be invited in to the delivery room, she cried, telling her that she “deserves to be there and that if I don’t allow her in the room that she will get full custody of my child.”
“I don’t know what to do, I don’t know what I did to deserve this. I’m scared with the way she is acting and don’t want her around my child at all,” the woman writes, adding that the woman’s son is on her side but that the two don’t quite know what to do.

The woman ends her post with a plea to other Reddit users: “Anyone have any advice? Am I doing something wrong?”
But Reddit users say the woman may need to further escalate the situation, with some advising she seek a restraining order. Others urge her to take the situation even more seriously, with one writing, “Pack up and move out of town, leave no forwarding address. She has no rights to your baby.”
