Anyone who is planning to take a trip to Disney World this month and is still getting their dining reservations in order should be aware of a big change happening at one of the theme park’s most popular restaurants.
Starting May 12, Whispering Canyon Café at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge resort will be closed for refurbishment, which is a bummer for anyone hoping to grab some barbecue at the lively restaurant in the coming weeks. The good news? The closure is a temporary one, and they’re scheduled to be up and running again on May 21, according to the Walt Disney World website.

There’s a reason Whispering Canyon has been so loved since it first opened in the ’90s. Not only is the menu (which includes all you can eat BBQ and bottomless milkshakes) delicious, but it also features a pretty rowdy atmosphere with lively servers and all kinds of surprise shenanigans. It’s practically a Disney rite of passage to visit the restaurant and ask for ketchup just to see what happens.
It’s definitely sad to miss out if you were hoping to eat at the restaurant over the next couple of weeks, but there are also plenty of yummy options at Wilderness Lodge that are worth a try, too. The bar and grill, Geyser Point, is one of my favorites and has a gorgeous view of the water, and offers grab and go options.
For a more formal experience, check out the Snow White themed meals at Artist Point, which are beautifully created and delicious — plus, you get to meet characters from the movie while you eat.
