Country singer Sammy “Outlaw” Kershaw had a bit of a snafu while traveling in Lafayette, Louisiana, last month.
On May 28, the “Love of My Life” singer, 67, whose real name is Samuel Paul Cashat, was stopped by airport security after accidentally bringing a loaded handgun through TSA screening, according to Absolute Publicity.
“It was early, I was half-awake and clearly not thinking straight. I’ve sang songs about heartbreak and hard times but not about forgetting to check my carry-on for a loaded firearm. That’s a new one!” Kershaw told the outlet.

“I guess it’s safe to say I won’t be packing heat to my next show,” he added. “Let this be your friendly PSA: check your bags, check ‘em twice. Let’s all stay safe out there.”
Kershaw was fined $5,000 for the offense.
The longtime musician is a Louisiana native who’s been a staple in country music for decades. Kershaw signed with Mercury Records in the early 1990s and has been mesmerizing crowds ever since.
Some of Kershaw’s biggest hits include “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful,” “Cadillac Style,” “Third Rate Romance,” and “Love of My Life.”
As for Kershaw’s personal life, he’s been married twice. However, his most publicized marriage was to fellow country star Lorrie Morgan from 2001 to 2007. Prior to that, he was married to Kim Kershaw from 1985 to 2001.
He is also a father to five children from various relationships. In 2019, he welcomed his first child with girlfriend Mendy Gregory, a daughter named Natelia Mae Kershaw.
“Natelia was my grandmother’s name, and Mae was Mendy’s grandmother’s name,” he gushed to People at the time. “She is a gift from God.”
He also told People, “I have great kids, but I was gone all the time, so I can’t really take all of the credit for having great children. I have to give credit where credit is due, and that’s my ex-wife Kim.”
