‘Phantom of the Opera’ Returns to NYC With Limited Six-Week ‘Masquerade’ originally appeared on Parade.
Rumors and speculation have only continued to swirl around the imminent return of The Phantom of the Opera to New York City. After months of enigmatic messages, though, the Phantom’s New York comeback seems closer than ever, as revealed in the recent ticket sales for Masquerade — the Phantom of the Opera-themed interactive experience scheduled to arrive in the very near future.
True to the Gothic atmosphere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s original musical, the exciting new announcements for Masquerade have been delivered in fittingly macabre fashion, with many of the details surrounding the show revealed by the Phantom himself.
In a written statement addressing fans of the legendary Broadway musical, the Phantom outlined key information about Masquerade for the general public, including further details on what to wear, how to go about securing your attendance at the show and how long the show is expected to run in New York City.
“You are strongly advised to sign my ledger by the 30th of June,” the Phantom’s statement reads. “This will ensure you will be granted access to my production during the six weeks I have elected to present it to a very fortunate few.”
Additionally, the Phantom outlined some pivotal information about Masquerade’s dress requirements, which “must be strictly adhered to.”
“You must dress in black, white or silver or a combination of these colours,” the note specifies. “You must at all times conceal your face. A masquerade mask in black, white, or silver is required. Bring your own or purchase one at the door.”
“Finally, a word of advice,” the statement continues. “Do not wear high heels. Whilst in certain circumstances these can be appropriate, they could be treacherous as you tread the secret catacombs and dark crannies that I have prepared for you.”
An interactive experience comparable to Sleep No More, Masquerade will premiere at 220 West 57th Street, in a building that previously featured Lee’s Art Shop.
