Season 1 garnered a 91% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and seemed to be generally well-received by fans, too. In fact, the first episode had 13.3 million viewers in its first six days on Disney+ and Hulu, placing it in the top five most-watched premieres of 2023 on both streaming services.

What is the release date for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2?

Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will arrive on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

What do we know about Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2?

A perk of the Percy Jackson TV show being based on a book series is that technically, fans already know what will happen. Since Season 1 followed the first book – The Lightning Thief – pretty closely, we’re pretty sure Season 2 will be a screen adaptation of the second book, The Sea of Monsters.

Rick Riordan, the original author of the series and an executive producer of the show, confirmed this in a Disney press release in February 2024. “I can’t wait to bring the next season of Percy Jackson to Disney+!” he said. “Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!”

Disney also released the season’s official synopsis at its D23 event in August 2024: “In the new season, Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.”

Walter Scobell, 15, plays the titular character Percy Jackson. This casting decision shows how serious Riordan was when he said he wanted the show to remain faithful to the books. Scobell, who gained some acclaim starring in 2022’s The Adam Project, was around 13 when he was cast to play 12-year-old Percy Jackson.

Disney has also announced some of the new casting decisions.

Daniel Diemer, who co-starred in the Netflix movie The Half of It (2020), will be joining the cast as Percy’s Cyclops half-brother Tyson. Timothy Simons, who played Jonah Ryan on HBO’s Veep, has been cast as Tantalus – the cruel interim director at Camp Half-Blood.

The roles of the Gray Sisters – three fate-decrying taxi drivers who Percy and Annabeth will encounter – have been cast. Sandra Bernhard will play Anger, Kristen Schaal will play Tempest and Margaret Cho will play Wasp.

In July 2025, it was announced that Levi Chrisopulos will play Nico di Angelo and Olive Abercrombie is set to play Bianca. The two “Children of Hades” are regarded as fan favorite characters.

Who is the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 director?

Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians shared three directors: James Bobin, Anders Engström and Jet Wilkinson.

However, the true head of the project is Rick Riordan, who wrote all of the original Percy Jackson books (and several spinoff series). Riordan is officially listed as co-creator, writer and executive producer on the show.

After the film adaptations of Percy Jackson in the early 2010s – which Riordan publicly denounced as a “mess” – the author almost didn’t move forward with the show. “After the movie experience, I basically wrote off Hollywood for a long, long time,” Riordan said in a 2023 interview with Variety. “I really didn’t want to have anything to do with the film industry. There were many years of me saying, ‘I don’t want to engage. I don’t want to think about other adaptations. I’m done.’ But when it started to become clear that something was going to happen with me or without me [for the Disney+ series], I had a long talk with Becky, my wife. We said, ‘Well, if something’s going to happen, it’s probably best to give it one more shot.’”

Is there a Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 trailer?

At D23 in 2024, Disney premiered a minute-long teaser trailer, which can be viewed here.

The first official trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 was revealed in July 2025.

How to watch Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2025. And in all likelihood, it will only be available to Disney+ subscribers. In December 2023 and January 2024, the first episode of Season 1 was available to watch on Hulu for a short promotional period; but it’s unclear if the same can be expected for Season 2.

If this season follows the same formula as Season 1, there could be a two-part premiere, after which episodes will be released weekly.
