Sports run through Patrick Mahomes’ veins.

ESPN’s upcoming documentary The Kingdom debuts retro footage of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 29, and his early athletic abilities captured on camera by his parents, Randi and Pat Mahomes Sr.

In an exclusive clip shared with PEOPLE, a young Patrick is seen swinging a baseball bat in his living room at balls thrown to him by his parents, who recognized their son’s love for sports as early as age two.

“Baseball was probably the biggest part of my life growing up,” the three-time Super Bowl winner says in the exclusive clip shared from The Kingdom, which chronicles the Chief’s 2024 season and deep dives into the franchise’s distinctive place in the NFL’s landscape.

Pat was a professional athlete himself as a former MLB pitcher from 1992 to 2003. He played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburg Pirates — and even earned himself a spot in the Sioux Falls Canaries Hall of Fame.

“My parents always told stories about how they had to stay up all night,” Patrick says in the clip, narrating over footage from old home videos of himself running around in diapers with a bat and baseball in hand.

“I used to call him the Energizer Bunny because he never stopped,” Randi says of her son. “I would go to sleep and I’d wake up and he would have a game going in my bedroom. He would be running bases at two and three years old.”

She adds, “He knew it, and that was what his passion was.”

Pat recalls subconscious signs and athletic qualities within his son early on that predicted his future success in sports.
