Ozzy Osbourne funeral plans are reportedly beginning to take shape following the tragic death of the heavy metal legend on Tuesday, July 22.
The Black Sabbath frontman, known as the “Prince of Darkness,” passed away at age 76 at his Buckinghamshire home after battling Parkinson’s disease.
When is Ozzy Osbourne’s Funeral?
Ozzy will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 30, with a funeral in his hometown of Birmingham, England.
Before the private family service, a public funeral procession will wind through the singer’s childhood neighborhood, passing the Black Sabbath bridge and memorial bench where fans have gathered to leave flowers for the heavy metal icon.
“It was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral,” Lord Mayor Zafar Iqbal told the Guardian. “We know how much this moment will mean to his fans.”
The local ensemble Bostin Brass will provide musical accompaniment for the procession, and surviving Black Sabbath members are expected to participate as well.
Fans who cannot attend in person to pay their respects will be able to watch via live stream from the Black Sabbath bench, with coverage reportedly beginning at 1PM BST (8AM EST).
Ozzy Osbourne’s Funeral Wishes
Ozzy’s funeral arrangements may reflect his own previously stated wishes about his final farewell. In a candid 2011 interview with The Times, Ozzy shared his thoughts on how he wanted to be remembered.
“There’ll be no harping on the bad times,” Ozzy explained. “It’s worth remembering that a lot of people see nothing but misery their whole lives, so by any measure, most of us in this country — especially rock stars like me — are very lucky.”
The heavy metal pioneer emphasized his desire for celebration over mourning. “That’s why I don’t want my funeral to be sad, I want it to be a time to say ‘thanks’.”
How Did Ozzy Osbourne Die?
The cause of Ozzy’s death has not been officially disclosed by the family. However, the rock legend had been publicly battling Parkinson’s disease since his 2003 diagnosis and faced numerous health challenges in recent years.
The Osbourne family announced his passing in an official statement on July 22, asking for privacy during this difficult time.
