The FDA issued a recall of select 10-count Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies for potential wood contamination
The recall was initiated on July 22 but classified as a Class II recall on Monday, Aug. 4
Recalled items were distributed to 20 states
Frosted sugar cookies sold at Target are being recalled, according to a report by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Over 12,000 packages of 10-count Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies are included in the recall, which was initiated on July 22. The reason for recall is “foreign material (wood)” and the recall was classified as Class II — the second-highest warning level — on Monday, Aug. 4.

A Class II recall indicates “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” according to the FDA’s website.
The recalled cookies have the UPC 85239-41250 and lot number 25195. But there is no discernible best-by date for the affected items.
The recalled products came from three distribution centers — in Connecticut, Maryland and Ohio — and were circulated to stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont and Washington, D.C.
The FDA did not say whether anyone has been affected in connection with the recall nor specify how the potential wood found its way into the product.
Target did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on the recall.
Another Class II recall circulated this week for Bunge North America Inc.’s butter products.
Bunge, which is based in Chesterfield, Mo., initially announced a voluntary recall of 64,800 lbs. of its European Style Butter Blend 1 lb. product on July 14 due to undeclared milk, which was not listed on the product label. The classification was raised to Class II on July 30.
