Oscar-Nominated ‘Superman’ Star Terence Stamp Dead at 87 originally appeared on Parade.

Terence Stamp, an Oscar-nominated English actor who starred in 1978’s Superman and its sequel, as well as other hits like The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, has died. He was 87 years old.

The sad news was confirmed by the actor’s family, via Reuters. They said in a statement, “He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come. We ask for privacy at this sad time.”

The actor died on Sunday morning. His family shared no further details about his death.

Stamp was a very accomplished actor who earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in his film debut, Billy Budd, in 1962. He also earned a BAFTA nomination for the same role.

Over the years, Stamp took on a variety of roles spanning many different genres. Some of his standout projects include Superman and Superman II in 1978 and 1980, Wall Street in 1987, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in 1994, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 1999, Big Eyes in 2014, and many more.

“I don’t have any ambitions. I’m always amazed there’s another job, I’m always very happy,” said Stamp in a 2015 interview with The Guardian, talking about his perspective on working as an actor. “I’ve had bad experiences and things that didn’t work out; my love for film sometimes diminishes but then it just resurrects itself. I never have to gee myself up, or demand a huge wage to get out of bed in the morning.”

“I’ve done crap, because sometimes I didn’t have the rent. But when I’ve got the rent, I want to do the best I can,” he concluded.
