Olivia Munn’s mom and her husband John Mulaney had a hilarious first interaction.
While chatting with Seth Meyers on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the X-Men: Apocalypse actress, 44, detailed the first interaction her comedian husband, 42, had with her mom. Their first encounter, which she said took place after the couple welcomed their son Malcolm, 3, happened on Thanksgiving and started a new family tradition.
“So Malcolm was born the day before Thanksgiving and my mom comes, first of all, never met John by this point,” she began. “And so she arrives with a suitcase from Oklahoma. She doesn’t even say hi to John. She just unzips her suitcase, takes out frozen turkeys because she’s like, ‘It’s from Oklahoma.'”
“She says to John, ‘You know, it’s so exciting in my family with all of our kids — the tradition — we put a drumstick in their hand for their first Thanksgiving when they’re baby.’ And John was like, ‘Oh, that’s cool,’ ” she recalled. “He says to me, ‘Hey, your mom’s gonna do this thing.’ I was like, ‘That is not a tradition. What is she talking about?'”

Olivia Munn on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’
The actress goes on to say that she called her siblings who also confirmed that her mother was not telling the truth. Munn ends the hilarious story by telling Meyers what happened during the moments the photo was taken.
“So in this photo, John’s holding Malcolm. My mom gets her turkey leg. She puts it there. She pats his hand and goes, ‘Okay, a new tradition,’ ” she concluded.
In addition to their son, Munn and Mulaney also share daughter Méi, 7 months. When it comes to raising her little ones, Munn admittedly is not the strict parent. On Thursday, April 17, the Iron Man 2 actress sat down with singer and daytime talk show host Kelly Clarkson, 42, on The Kelly Clarkson Show and talked about her parenting style, comparing herself to Robin Williams’ character in the 1993 movie Mrs. Doubtfire.
“I think it’s so funny. The crazier things [Malcolm] says, it just makes me laugh so much. John is much more like — like I will laugh in the moment of him doing something, like knocking all the flowers off the table, I think it’s so funny,” she said, demonstrating how Mulaney looks at her during those situations.
“And, I — because apparently we’re trying to teach him not to do those things, but I know I am the Mrs. Doubtfire of the situation,” she continued. “I am Robin Williams, and he is Sally Fields.”

Ahead of her first Mother’s Day as a mom of two, the Your Friends & Neighbors actress shared a video of her holding up a questionnaire and a drawing that her son Malcolm made for her, as he threw a tantrum on the floor. Munn posed next to her son after Mulaney asked if Malcolm wanted to take a picture with her, and the toddler responded he did not.
“For Mother’s Day Malcolm gave me 20 years back,” she wrote in the caption, alluding to the first question on the questionnaire that asked how old she was. In response, her son wrote 24 years old.
On Mother’s Day, the actress shared a video on her Instagram of her with her daughter, as she pretended she was a superhero.
“Don’t worry, the streets are safe tonight,” she wrote in the caption of the adorable video.
