A new six-figure IRS lien has pushed rapper Offset’s tax debt past the $2.3 million mark, adding to existing legal troubles and intensifying his divorce from Cardi B, who alleges she is being held financially captive to cover his immense tax obligations.

The financial and legal landscape for rapper Offset, whose real name is Kiari Cephus, has become significantly more complex. Reports indicate that his total unpaid tax bill has swelled to more than $2.3 million, a staggering sum that includes multiple liens from both federal and state authorities. This escalating financial pressure comes at a tumultuous time, as he navigates a high-profile divorce from superstar rapper Cardi B, who has made explosive claims about the financial demands tied to their separation.

The Accumulation of Seven-Figure Tax Debt

The core of Offset’s current financial crisis stems from a series of unaddressed tax liabilities spanning several years. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Georgia Department of Revenue have collectively filed multiple liens against the former Migos member, indicating a pattern of growing debt.

Recent IRS & State Liens Detailed

  • On October 15, 2025, the IRS filed a federal tax lien against Offset for $486,426.35, specifically for taxes owed in 2023. This year notably predates his public split from Cardi B, as reported by Us Weekly.
  • Months prior, on April 3, 2024, the IRS had issued another significant lien, accusing him of owing $1,575,266.73 for the year 2022.
  • Adding to the federal claims, the Georgia Department of Revenue filed a tax lien on March 12, 2025, for an alleged $292,000 from 2021. This amount includes the original tax bill of $167,916, which significantly grew due to interest ($53,000), penalties ($40,000), and collection fees ($33,000).

As of recent official records, none of these substantial liens have been released, bringing the total alleged outstanding tax bill to a staggering $2,353,692. The continuous filing of new liens underscores the severity and persistence of Offset‘s financial challenges.

Beyond Taxes: Alleged Strip Club Assault Judgment

Adding another layer of legal and financial burden, Offset is also engaged in a battle to overturn a $232,000 judgment stemming from an alleged assault at a Florida strip club in January 2021. The incident involved Leamsy Izquierdo and Humberto Crespo, who claim the rapper attacked them after Cardi B was sprayed with champagne by someone in the crowd.

The alleged victims asserted that Offset struck them in the face, head, and body, resulting in injuries that required medical attention and were described as permanent. In late 2024, a Miami judge granted a default judgment against Offset. However, in April, he filed court documents seeking to have the judgment dismissed, contending that he was never properly served with the legal papers. A hearing for this dispute is scheduled for February 2026, indicating a prolonged legal fight ahead.

Cardi B’s Explosive Divorce Claims: A Battle Over Millions

The financial entanglements are not confined to Offset’s personal ledger; they have become a contentious focal point in his ongoing divorce from Cardi B. The Grammy-winning artist filed for divorce in July 2024 after seven years of marriage, but her recent public statements suggest the separation is far from amicable, particularly regarding financial resolutions.

During a candid chat on X (formerly Twitter) on September 22, Cardi B made startling allegations, claiming the only reason she remained legally married was due to Offset‘s desire for her to cover his taxes and surrender one of her properties. “The only reason why I’m still married is because somebody wants me to pay for their taxes,” she stated, adding, “The only way I can get out of my marriage is if I pay for somebody else’s taxes, even though I pay for my own, and give them one of my properties. I’m fighting for that, I’m gonna fight for that. This is not no love s***.”

She further elaborated on feeling “held hostage” by contractual obligations, stating, “I’m not gonna live my life because on a contract I’m practically still married because somebody wanna hold me hostage if I don’t give them millions of dollars to get out of it.” These claims paint a picture of a divorce battle deeply rooted in significant financial demands.

The Family Context and Future Outlook

Amidst the legal and financial drama, Offset and Cardi B share three children: Kulture Kiari Cephus, 7, Wave Set Cephus, 4, and Blossom Belle, 12 months. Cardi B expressed her hopes for Offset‘s personal growth in a September interview with Gayle King, remarking, “I just wish he was a better person. But it is what it is. Be a better person for your kids.”

Further complicating their family dynamics, Cardi B announced on September 17 that she is expecting her fourth child, her first with boyfriend and NFL star Stefon Diggs, according to Us Magazine. This new chapter for Cardi B contrasts sharply with Offset‘s ongoing struggles, highlighting the divergent paths of the estranged couple.

The confluence of escalating tax debt, an unresolved assault judgment, and a contentious divorce negotiation involving millions of dollars suggests a challenging road ahead for Offset. The public and fans alike will continue to follow this unfolding narrative, which serves as a poignant reminder of the complex realities behind celebrity lifestyles.
