This Jack Black song is as short as it is catchy.
The School of Rock actor just broke a record on the Billboard Hot 100 with the memeable song “Steve’s Lava Chicken” from A Minecraft Movie. The 34-second-long song is now the shortest song to hit the Billboard Hot 100 list by run time in the chart’s almost 70-year history.
Written by Black, 55, and the movie’s director, Jared Hess, “Steve’s Lava Chicken” addresses the question of what happens when hot lava and chicken are combined. The answer? Steve’s Lava Chicken, of course.
With the sound effects of a chicken bawking and the sizzling — pronounced with an unserious emphasis that will live rent-free in your mind all day — Black’s Steve croons about the boxy snack’s deliciousness.

In full, the lyrics read: “La-la-la-lava, ch-ch-ch-chicken/Steve’s Lava Chicken, yeah, it’s tasty as hell/Ooh, mamacita, now you’re ringin’ the bell.”
Black sings: “Crispy and juicy, now you’re havin’ a snack/Ooh, super spicy, it’s a lava attack.” The earworm will likely be stuck in fans’ heads until further notice. For fans not satisfied with the quick hit, there is an extended version clocking in at a whopping minute and 15 seconds.
“Steve’s Lava Chicken” debuted at No. 78 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart dated May 3. The previous record holder was Kid Cudi for his 37-second-long 2020 song “Beautiful Trip.”

Having the shortest song on Billboard‘s Hot 100 isn’t the only record that A Minecraft Movie has shattered for Black. The $157 million domestic opening for the film beat The Super Mario Bros. Movie for its respective domestic opening, which at the time was the biggest opening for a video game-based movie.
As of April 27, per Variety, the movie has grossed $816 million globally, making it the biggest movie in 2025 to date.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie also featured another viral hit by Black — “Peaches,” dedicated to the video game franchise’s princess.
