Music icon Nicki Minaj finds her luxurious $20 million Hidden Hills mansion under threat of seizure due to an unpaid half-million-dollar default judgment stemming from an alleged backstage assault involving her husband, Kenneth Petty. This development adds another layer to the couple’s ongoing legal battles, which include Petty’s sex offender status and a harassment lawsuit.
The spotlight often shines brightly on music superstar Nicki Minaj, but recently, it has illuminated a complex web of legal challenges threatening her substantial assets. At the heart of the latest developments is a $500,000 judgment awarded to a security guard, Thomas Weidenmuller, following an alleged backstage assault by Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty. With the judgment unpaid, Weidenmuller has now moved to seize Minaj’s lavish Los Angeles-area home, drawing significant attention to the couple’s broader legal entanglements.
The 2019 Frankfurt Assault: A Broken Jaw and a Default Judgment
The genesis of this significant financial predicament dates back to a 2019 concert in Frankfurt, Germany. According to Thomas Weidenmuller, a security guard working at the event, the incident began when a fan managed to climb on stage with Minaj. The rapper allegedly blamed a female security guard for the breach and began recording her while yelling.
Weidenmuller reportedly intervened, expressing that it was unfair to publicly “ruin” the security staffer’s reputation. He claimed that Minaj then threw a shoe at him, which missed, before Kenneth Petty allegedly ambushed him from behind, punching him in the face. This blow purportedly left Weidenmuller “stunned and disoriented” with a broken jaw, requiring multiple surgeries and the insertion of “five plates” in his jaw, which has “not yet been fully reconstructed,” as detailed by NME.
Weidenmuller initially sought $21,000 for medical bills and $700,000 for emotional pain and ongoing injury. However, due to Minaj and Petty’s failure to respond to the lawsuit, a judge awarded Weidenmuller a default judgment exceeding $500,000 in March 2024. Court records indicate that efforts to serve the couple with the complaint were made several times but were unsuccessful.
The Battle for the Hidden Hills Mansion
With the default judgment remaining unpaid, Weidenmuller’s legal team has escalated their efforts. In October 2025, a court motion was filed requesting the sale of Minaj’s $20 million Hidden Hills mansion to satisfy the outstanding debt. The property, purchased by Minaj for $19.5 million in December 2022, reportedly carries a $13.2 million mortgage lien, leaving approximately $6 million in equity—more than enough to cover the judgment.
Weidenmuller’s lawyer, Paul Saso, emphasized that “judgments are not optional” and that his client is “entitled to have it paid,” according to Us Weekly. The legal filing noted Minaj’s considerable estimated net worth of $150-190 million, highlighting her capability to pay the judgment.
In response, Minaj took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the legal battle, alleging that a former business manager failed to notify her about Weidenmuller’s case. She also claimed this same business manager had “stolen from me MANY times.”
Kenneth Petty’s Extensive Legal History and Ongoing Challenges
The assault lawsuit is not the only legal challenge facing Kenneth Petty and, by extension, Minaj. Petty has a significant legal history, including a 1995 conviction for first-degree attempted rape of a 16-year-old, for which he served four years in a New York state prison. Following this conviction, he was required to register as a sex offender.
Petty’s failure to register as a sex offender in California after relocating came to light in 2019 when he was pulled over by Beverly Hills police. He initially pleaded not guilty but later entered a plea deal on September 9, 2021, facing a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison in addition to a lifetime of supervised release, as reported by OK! Magazine.
Adding to these woes, Petty and Minaj are also embroiled in a lawsuit filed by Jennifer Hough, Petty’s alleged rape victim from 1994. Hough accuses the couple of attempting to intimidate her into retracting her rape claim and inflicting intentional emotional distress. The lawsuit alleges attempts to bribe Hough with as much as $500,000 to change her story. The case was referred to mediation in December 2022, as noted by Black Enterprise.
Impact on Minaj’s Career and Public Image
For a global music superstar like Nicki Minaj, whose career milestones include a record-setting Super Bowl halftime show performance in 2012, these ongoing legal battles cast a shadow. While Minaj continues to tour, with her “Pink Friday 2” 2024 World Tour dates spanning North America and Europe, the financial and reputational strains are undeniable.
The contrast between her immense wealth and the refusal to settle a court-ordered payment for a serious injury raises questions about accountability. Fans and observers alike are watching closely as the legal system potentially forces the sale of a physical symbol of her success to resolve a half-million-dollar debt. This saga underscores the profound impact that personal legal troubles can have on even the most prominent public figures.
