Rumors around Apple’s next Vision Pro-style device have been all over the place in the past year. Recently though, Apple’s plans have started becoming more clear: a lighter, cheaper Apple Vision ‘Air’ product is coming. And now according to a new report, it could launch by the end of this year.

Vision Air will be lighter, cheaper, and might arrive this year

Mark Gurman writes at Bloomberg:

I reported earlier this month that Apple is full steam ahead on two new successors to the Vision Pro: a lighter version at a cheaper price point and a Mac-tethered model aimed at applications that need maximum responsiveness. All signs point to the lighter model arriving between the end of this year and the first half of 2026. Despite the first version selling poorly, the company isn’t abandoning ship here. The main uncertainty is whether the lighter version will be considered a replacement for the Vision Pro or a cheaper alternative.

This timeline shows just how committed Apple is to launching a new Vision device as quickly as possible.

It wasn’t long ago that reports indicated Apple’s next Vision product was totally in flux. So it seems pretty remarkable that now the Vision Air could launch as early as this year, or even early in 2026.

9to5Mac’s Take

It’s certainly possible Apple has been troubled by Vision Pro’s seeming lack of momentum in the market. As a result, it’s doing everything it can to address the product’s two biggest issues—weight and cost—with an update fairly quickly.

Whatever the case may be, if the company truly can launch a lighter, cheaper Vision Air product within the next year, I wonder what kind of technology compromises it might require. Will EyeSight be a thing of the past? What about the Vision Pro’s high-quality displays and/or cameras?

Announcing a Vision Air this fall alongside what’s supposed to be a big visionOS 3 software update could be a great one-two punch to reinvigorate Apple’s latest product category.

It would also make 2025 a very big year for ‘Air’ products between the M4 MacBook Air, iPhone 17 Air, M3 iPad Air, and now a Vision Air too.
