(The Center Square) – Nevada Treasurer Zach Conine announced his run Wednesday for state attorney general.

Conine, a Democrat and licensed attorney, will look to step into Attorney General Aaron Ford’s shoes as Ford tries to take the governor’s office. The gubernatorial and attorney general races will be on the ballot in the November 2026 general election.

The bid was announced on social media site X with an “elevator pitch” video, where Conine, a licensed attorney from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas’ William S. Boyd School of Law, pitched himself to voters while shoulder-to-shoulder in an elevator.

“Donald Trump’s ongoing tariffs have put pressure on businesses, workers and families,” said Conine. “He’s attacking our constitutional rights. Now, I’m running for attorney general to stand up for Nevada families.”

Conine’s stance echoes that of outgoing Ford, a Democrat who has been a staunch opponent of Trump’s second term. Ford recently won a court order to restore school funding the Republican president’s administration had canceled.

“If Trump or Elon or anyone messes with Nevada – we will see them in court,” said Conine.

The elevator pitch also highlighted Conine’s desire to take on corporations “that take advantage of working people and don’t play by the rules,” to protect against federal cuts to schools and workers, and ensure clean air and water.

The attorney general bid comes after a narrow 2022 treasurer win for Conine over Republican Michele Fiore, in which Conine only won Clark and Washoe counties. Clark County, the state’s most populous county, is home to Las Vegas.

Conine made a point of the $100 million he has helped provide to small businesses, the $2 billion provided for the state housing crisis and his work with unions.
