Netflix Reportedly Cancels Two Shows on Wednesday originally appeared on Parade.

It’s never easy to say goodbye, especially when you’re just getting started.

But, that’s exactly what happened for two freshman Netflix series on Wednesday. According to a Deadline exclusive, the major streamer pulled the plug on Pulse and The Residence. The cancelations after just one season come after the series spent months stuck in renewal purgatory.

Both Pulse and The Residence debuted to mixed reviews, but garnered a loyal following along the way. Sadly, it must not have been enough to secure a second season for either series.

Netflix has slowly but surely been renewing several of its new scripted series, including Man On the Inside, starring the legendary Ted Danson, Running Point, led by Kate Hudson, and Ransom Canyon, starring Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel.

Deadline reports that the cast and crew of Pulse were among the first to receive the news of the show’s cancelation over a month ago. The series, created by Zoe Robyn and starring Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, was Netflix’s answer to the classic procedural medical drama. Unfortunately, it was not able to be revived.

The Residence, created by Paul William Davies and produced by Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland production company, was canceled more recently. The series’ cancelation was particularly surprising given the show’s star-studded cast, led by Uzo Aduba. Other iconic cast members included Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Lee, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Randall Park, and many more.

The Residence earned a reputation not just for its all-star cast, but for its all-star set. The show was filmed in what might possibly be the largest recreation of the White House to date, an impressive feat achieved at the hands of the show’s production design, set design, and construction teams.

Both shows will be missed by their small but mighty following.
