Nathan Fillion Reacts ‘Like a Sleeper Agent’ As ‘The Rookie’ Co-Star Pranks Him Mid-Comic Con originally appeared on Parade.
It was like a “switch was flipped” during The Rookie’s panel at San Diego Comic Con when one of Nathan Fillion‘s beloved castmembers crashed the event to pull an epic and long-running prank on him.
As seen in a clip uploaded to TikTok by one attendee, Fillion could be seen seated behind the talent table when, from out of the view of the lens, the opening strums of The Rookie’s viral “Daddy Cop” began to play, setting the actor on high alert.
He looked haunted as he turned to face the source of the noise and the camera panned to show Zander Hawley, who plays Rodge on the series—and Fillion’s character’s arch nemesis, for all intents and purposes—strolling across the stage with his acoustic guitar.
Eventually, Fillion came to stand face to face with Hawley, puffing his chest out in a slightly intimidating manner, as though embodying his character, before encouraging the audience to sing along and filming their response.

Fans loved the incredibly meta moment, and the way that Fillion seemlessly slipped into character as soon as he registed the intrusion.
“The look on his face when he realized is priceless 😂😂,” one laughed
“The way the John Nolan switch was flipped,” one observed. “love it 💜.”
“The second he heard the song playing he became John Nolan, it brought him out like a sleeper agent,” another joked, with another sharing a similar sentiment: “he became like a sleeper agent, the second he heard it it’s instant John Nolan mode.”
“Even off the set he can’t escape him,” someone else joked, as another declared, “the joke never ends..and we’re all here for it 😅.”
